I mentioned it in my post last week but we have really been on a snow kick this year. A couple weekends ago we went and spent the weekend up at the Montage in Deer Valley. The kids love staying in hotels and it’s always fun to break away for a couple days. The Montage is always one of our favorites. The kids love it because they get free stuffed animals when you check in (Mara is a stuffed animal hoarder 🙂 and they have s’more roasting every day with a hot cocoa bar. Cody’s favorite dessert is hot cocoa so it’s safe to say he loved it as much (if not more) than the kids. We also took advantage of the spa and got massages. The massage room overlooks the valley it’s so beautiful! We had so much fun playing in the snow, sledding, and discovering all that the resort had to offer. Can’t wait to go back!

With all the snow adventures we’ve had this year I’ve found three staples for creating a stylish (but warm) snow ensemble:

1. Cute Beanie. Beanies are the ultimate snow accessory. They can completely make an outfit. I can never get enough color so I’m partial to brightly colored beanies (North Face has some really cute ones this year!) but a neutral one (cream, grey or black) are winter staples as well. The neutrals are nice because you can dress them up with regular clothes without looking cheesy. And of course I am a firm believer in pom-poms in any colored beanie (I have this one and just ordered this one).

2. Fur Something. Fur (faux, for my taste) has been a runway and reality staple every winter – there is no better way to stay both chic and cozy. I especially love the faux-fur-trimmed jackets and vests. The fur adds an instant bit of glam to an otherwise basic ensemble, not to mention the  feminine balance it brings to the often boyish silhouettes that result from multiple layers of warmth. Nordstrom has so many great fur pieces I got both my faux fur trimmed vest and coat from them this year. If fur isn’t your thing, opt for a a fuzzy fleece to still create texture in your look (have this one and love it- super warm!)

3. Snow Boots. If your cold weather activities don’t require trekking through too much snow Uggs are a great choice. Just remember to spray them well with a water protectant and wear ski socks to keep your toes completely warm. I actually wore my Uggs snowmobiling a couple weeks ago because I forgot my snow boots. They fared way better than I anticipated. Of course if your plans include any amount of deep snow I would suggest a pair of lace-up snow boots (laced tight!) to keep snow from getting in (is there anything worse?). I got these boots this year and they work great. Plus they look cute with regular pants or snow gear.

Happy cold weather adventuring!

Christine

  1. I have been obsessed with fur lately especially on jackets. Fur just give them that extra something and make them look a bit more stylish

  2. I think I’m all ready for the NYC snow. This post is so cute and I love the beanie. I recently cut all my hair off (I have no idea what I was thinking doing this in the winter), sooo I have to wear tons of beanies.

  4. love that you advocate for faux fur over fur. It’s such a bummer to see bloggers jump on the bandwagon of fear and so so sad to see real fur making a comeback. So yay for you to staying true to your values and keeping fur where they belong – on animals!
