The question on what to wear to weddings is one I get a lot. I shared some general tips a few weeks ago here in case you missed it and wanted to share another approach. From beaches to cathedrals, weddings can be all over the place and so can the dress code. For a day wedding you can usually get away with more casual attire.

For her, it’s the perfect opportunity to wear a maxi sun dress in a bright color or bold pattern (the dress I’m wearing today is under a $100). I love the simple pleating detail on this maxi dress which adds a perfect amount of elegance for a day wedding and the lightweight material makes it ideal for a warm summer day. A crochet lace dress is another great option for a day wedding – the material is a casual take on a more black-tie appropriate lace but still has the same feminine effect. A nude heeled sandal, fun print clutch, and feminine accessories finish it off perfectly.

For him, a day wedding is a great excuse to trade in his slacks for dark-wash denim and focus on other details like a sharp, slim fitting blazer (this one is perfect for summer) and dress shoes (this pair under $50) that make a statement on their own. Another way to balance out the casual effect of denim for a day wedding is with a printed pocket square (love this print). You can find more of Cody’s tips for wearing a pocket square on Hello His.

Check out a few more of my favorite picks for a day wedding below.

WHITE LACE-TRIMMED DRESS (UNDER $50 – WEARING SIZE SMALL) || BEIGE CARDIGAN (SIMILAR HERE) || NUDE LACE-UP SANDALS (SIMILAR HERE) || SUNGLASSES || BLUSH CHLOE SADDLEBAG (SIMILAR HERE)

Just wanted to share a quick post today. Temperatures have been breaking records this month hitting over 100 degrees almost every day for the last week and shows no sign of cooling off any time soon. Our poor a/c hasn’t been able to keep up either so to escape the heat we have been breaking to Park City for the weekends where it is usually a little cooler. Even then all I want to wear are dresses and sandals (for those places I can’t get away with a swimsuit, which unfortunately turns out to be most places).

A girl can never own too many summer dresses, especially when they are all unique and have different detailing. That’s all you will want to wear in the dead heat of summer so you might as well have options, right? Love the criss-cross neckline with the laced-hem on this dress. Also just added this pair of sandals and love the nude color, especially for summer.

Below are a few more great options for summer.

BLUSH TOP (SOLD OUT, SIMILAR HERE AND UNDER $30! | ALSO LOVE THE DETAIL ON THIS TOP) || WHITE DENIM || NUDE HANDBAG || SUNGLASSES || NUDE HEELS

You might remember this top from the inspiration board I posted a few weeks ago. I loved it so much I had to order it and so glad I snagged my size – the ruffling detail is even prettier in person. It sold out with a few other retailers but still available here for 50% off.

I have been gravitating towards pieces with a ruffled detail a lot lately. It’s such a simple but feminine finish on everything from a basic tee dress to a plain white top. The ruffled hem on this top completely transforms an otherwise simple, boxy top into a feminine focal point. Completing the ensemble with neutrals like white denim and nude accessories makes for a chic, elegant look.

Check our a few other options with the ruffled detail that I’m loving below:

We were up in Sun Valley over the weekend for Cody’s annual family trip. If you haven’t been to Sun Valley it’s so beautiful! He has such a big family I love it- (I’m talking 8 brothers and sisters who all have kids so it’s like a group of 40-50). B loves to play with the kids but after about 15 minutes of ten little girls passing him back and forth he goes into melt down mode and gets super clingy. I can’t complain – I love the cuddles 😉

Stripe Matching Set

stripe set hello fashion

stripe skirt hello fashion

lemon clutch

skirt and crop top

DETAILS: STRIPED TWO-PIECE  DRESS (ALSO LOVING THIS ONE AND THIS STRIPED ONE) || LEMON CLUTCH || NUDE HEELS || SUNGLASSES

If the last time you wore a matching two-piece set (and no I am not talking pajamas!) was for picture day in elementary school then you are missing out. To get over any misplaced phobia from your childhood, think of separates as a chic split dress, jumper, romper, etc. Better yet, your separates will work over time if and when you split them up. Below are a few ways to wear matching separates that work with any body type.

1. The Dress-set: Two-piece dresses come in so many styles but one of my favorites is when paired with a crop top. Don’t second guess your ability to pull off a cropped-top set – it can chic but sophisticated at almost any stage in life. For classic feminine perfection, opt for a high-waisted skirt with a long hem-line (think an align, maxi, or midi pencil skirt – love this bright print and this floral set).

Wear It: Whenever you can 🙂 Between a midi pencil skirt and align, you can take this look casual for the weekend or dressy for date night out or even a semi-formal occasion.

2. The Shorts-set: Matching top and shorts combos are a flirty take on a romper and perfect for summer. To break up a set, opt for matching jacket like this gorgeous blush kimono set. Play with prints and texture for a set that reads more intentional then accidental.

Wear It: Outdoors to a summer BBQ, picnic, the boardwalk, or other fun summer staple activities.

3. The Pants-set: The matching pants and top separates is such a chic and sophisticated look. Understated sets from monochromatic tones to bold prints come across exactly as you would expect them to – perfection. I love this checkered chambray set.

Wear It: Anywhere from the office (with conservative sets) to a Broadway play or any other occasions where elegance is everything.

Digging up more matching sets definitely started something. I’m loving so many of the options! Below are a few more of my favorites.

PINK AND GREY

Hey guys! So if you follow me on Snapchat (@hellofashblog) you already heard about my little saga, but if you don’t our garage was broken into and my two favorite designer bags were stolen 🙁 My new Givenchy and my tan Celine I got a couple months ago, both gone. You’re probably wondering why I keep my bags in the garage, well they are usually in my car, because I switch them out quite a bit, but I pulled everything out for the blogger sale this weekend and just left them in my garage. It’s funny on Sunday I saw them sitting there and consciously thought I need to take them in but my arms were full and by the time I got in the house I forgot.

Yesterday I went to get something out of one of them and they were gone! It’s so crazy because I had my Chloe bag, my Rebecca Minkoff backpack, a brand new dress with the tags still on it, a pair of Louboutins and a few other things all sitting right by the ones that were stolen and they only took my two favorite bags. Needless to say I was kind of bummed! We filed a police report and the officer I think thought I was speaking a foreign language. He was like what was taken? I responded “My tan Celine and nude Givenchy bag” He asks: “What color are they?” I repeat, “one is tan the other is nude” He’s like ohhh I thought that was the name of the bag. So what color is that exactly. My face is just like blank stare. This doesn’t give me high hopes he will even know what to look for lol. Anyways thankfully I have a million pictures of them from blog posts so they know what they look like. Honestly since they aren’t even sold in Utah if I see anyone with them I’m gonna be like hey where’d you get that bag hahaha. Just kidding, I probably wouldn’t have the guts to do it if I actually saw them but you know I would be creeping.

One thing the officer said is that they have had a lot of things stolen out of people’s garages lately. I used to leave the garage door open during the day while I’m home so he said it could have easily gotten stolen then. He said a lot of people just drive past see something and grab it real quick. So learn from me!! DONT LEAVE YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPEN! I mean I’m not 100% sure that’s what happened but the officer said it happens multiple times a week they get calls about stolen items from garages. Anyways, thanks to all you guys that shared funny stories and sent messages who had similar bad experiences. I feel your pain!

Anyways, about today’s board – one of my favorite ways to wear the color pink is to toughen it up by pairing it with something a little more boyish – the balance between rough and tumble and feminine never fails. Grey instantly tones down the color pink and I love the effect of the two shades worn together.  Another way to toughen up a girly silhouette is with a boxy tee or a bomber jacket. Worn with a classic midi pencil skirt (OBSESSED!) or full mini skirt, it’s a perfect mix. To balance it out on each end, I also love the look of a baseball hat with heels.

Three of my favorite stores are running a great promotion right now – between 35-40% off online orders only at Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy with code BEST valid through tomorrow. These shoes are one of my favorites on sale. I love the cut –  I already own a similar pair to the blush heel but the other colors it comes in are so tempting. Below are a few more of my favorites from the sale.

My Dad and Cody + A Father’s Day Giveaway

I realize I often keep things pretty surface level and mostly talk about fashion but in honor of Father’s Day I wanted to share a little more about two of the most important people in my life: Cody and my Dad.

dad baby copy

dad wedding

We still haven’t unloaded all our boxes from the move so these were the only pics I could find. Who else had the bowl cut as a kid?! When I find the rest of the pics I’ll share more 🙂

I was the full definition of a Daddy’s girl. My parents were divorced when I was young and I grew up with my Dad. I remember we didn’t have much at first, but I was never with out.  In college I was doing an internship in Wisconsin and called him crying over a bad night I had. He was driving home from a work trip about 10-15 hours from where I was and offered to drive over? I was like Dad no way you are so far away and I only have an hour break for lunch tomorrow (they wouldn’t let us take time off) and assumed that was the end of it. The next day I got a text an hour before my break saying “where should I meet you? I came just to give you a hug.” He literally drove all night – no sleep- just to give me a hug and let me know he cared.

He’s always gone out of his way to help other people and showed me by example how to help people in need. He would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He’s started multiple successful businesses and taught me how to be an entrepreneur and pursue my dreams.  I also inherited my bad spelling skills from my Dad – it is kind of a joke in our family now 😉 but I look up to my Dad in so many ways and am so thankful to have him in my life. I love you Dad!

wes cuteness

Now Cody: I couldn’t ask for a better Dad for our kids. If you’re a parent you know about the sleepless nights when you first have kids where your emotions are on edge and you snap at your husband over the dumbest things (well at least I did! lol) Cody never once complained about getting up with B in the middle of the night. Still when I ask him to run get the wipes out of my car, change a diaper, or call him frustrated on days I just need a break, he never says no. He always jumps up to help with out complaining. Cody is definitely the jokester in our family. He always knows how to make the kids laugh no matter the occasion. I love seeing the different bonds he creates with each of the kids because each one of their relationships is so unique. He works hard to provide for our family and make sure we are taken care of and I’m so thankful for all he does.

In honor of Father’s Day we are doing a special giveaway (over $700 in prizes) so you can honor your Dad, Husband, or Grandfather.  Head to Cody’s blog here to enter and read more about what being a Dad means to him.

Thanks for reading and thanks to all you Dad’s out there!

White Lace Dress + 5 Ideas for Girl’s Night

Lace Sleeve Dress

lace dress detail

going out dress

DETAILS: LACE DRESS (UNDER A $100) || FLORAL HEELS || CLUTCH (UNDER $40) || SUNGLASSES || EARRINGS || LIPSTICK (CANDY YUM YUM)

How amazing is the lace detail on this dress! I am obsessed! Lace gets me every time. I love the sleeve illusion of this one too (under $60) and this one. Even colorful lace is gorgeous, this blue lace shift dress is just gorgeous.

Now I love being a mom. I don’t take a single second of my time with the kids for granted but I also think it’s important to have a little you time. That said, there’s nothing like a girl’s night out every once in a while! Something about a night surrounded by a fun group of your closest friends can be the perfect rejuvenation. My girl’s night plans usually default to retail therapy or a favorite restaurant, but next time you are planning a girls’ night keep a few of these fun ideas in mind.

1.) Try out a new workout, like yoga or kick boxing. The more out-of-character, the better. On top of a killer workout, you’ll probably end up with a few laughs too.

2.)  Who doesn’t love getting pampered? Book appointments to get your nails done all at the same time or schedule a group of massage therapists who will come to you. Or both. That doesn’t sound too bad either. 😉 Sometimes a night in can be just as much fun as a night out, if not more.

3.) Who says poker night is just for the guys? Have everyone brush up on the rules and come with a few different types of poker games in mind. You decide on the buy-in for chips – whether it’s $5 or $500 the betting will be just as fun.

4.) Get Crafty. I love finding crafts, recipes, or home decor projects on Pinterest. Pick a craft or recipe and enjoy a girls night being creative with your friends.

5.) Dress up. Who cares where you are headed! It could be to test the menu of a new restaurant, catch a comedy show, or just dress up for the sake of dressing up. Pick out a fun new outfit and enjoy some girl time! I love white during the summer because it makes you look tan and it looks good on everyone. I got this  white lace dress last week and it’s the perfect mix of classic and feminine, especially for summer. Summer is all about the little white dresses and they have so many cute ones at Lulus. I also love introducing a colorful shoe to the look for something unexpected. I just got these pink ones (under $60) and I’m obsessed.

Hope you all have a great Monday! Thanks for reading! Head to Cody’s blog for a big Father’s Day Giveaway.

XOX,
Christine

Transitioning Dresses from Day to Date

DAY LOOK DETAILS: FLORAL TRAPEZE DRESS || BLUSH CROSS-BODY BAG || PINK FLATS

NIGHT LOOK DETAILS: FLORAL TRAPEZE DRESS || BLUSH CROSS-BODY BAG || PINK HEELS

Weekend dates usually consist of family time during the day and heading out at night leaving not a lot of time to revamp in between. I always opt for pieces that I know can transition easily and in the summer that usually means a comfortable flowy dress.

Dresses are easily one of the most versatile pieces a girl owns, making the transition from day to date a breeze. I love the watercolor print of this dress – the bright palette makes it perfect for the upcoming seasons and the chic cut is one that can read both casual or sophisticated depending on how you style it. Also love this bright print sheath dress and this popover dress, which is a great way to get the cropped top look without having to show skin. As a one piece, jumpsuits are another versatile piece that transitions seamlessly from day to night.

Paired with flats a dress is a great option for a day out with friends or family but swap your flats for heels and statement jewelry and you are ready for a night out. Not only do you get more wear out of your wardrobe by making a dress do double-duty, but you’re also basically guaranteed to be the one hearing “five more minutes” from your S/O as you are waiting by the door. 😉

Here are a few more of my favorite dresses that make the day to date night transition effortless.

I grew up going to the pool with my Mom almost every day when I visited her in the summer. It was one of my favorite things to do with her!  I think if the kids had it their way we would be there every day too! They would swim all day everyday if we let them. Last year I saw a million and one cute floaties on Instagram so I decided to pick some up for the kids this summer. I let each of them pick one out and they were way bigger than I anticipated. Like three of us can fit on one! It’s awesome! The flamingo is my favorite (that was Mara’s choice) and Wes went for the pretzel. They picked a donut out for B but after we blew the first two we didn’t even open up the donut. I guess we will save it for later in the summer 🙂

I love these little matching swimsuits for Cody and the boys. I’m such a sucker for matching. You can see more of our pool day and 5 easy things to do with the kids on Cody’s blog here.

Lastly one of my friends is putting on a blogger garage sale this Saturday from 10 am-12. I am bringing A BUNCH OF STUFF to sell. I have like 10 garbage bags full of stuff. 100% of the proceeds I earn from my sales I’ll be donating to charity. I haven’t decided which one yet but I’m thinking St. Jude’s. If there is a charity your passionate about let me know – I always like finding new organizations to support 🙂 Hope to see you there! I would love to meet you all!
