Quick post today, it’s Mara’s birthday! We are doing some last minute errands getting ready for her party this weekend. Today’s look is one of my favorite classic combos: black and white. I picked up this scarf on our Cali trip and I’ve been wearing it on repeat. I love the tassel detail.  You guys know I am sucker for distressed denim and they have so many cute pairs out right now. Loving these super distressed ones and these under a $100. Congrats to Erin D. who won the Lulu’s giveaway! Have a great day everyone!

The Secret to Softer Skin & Lips

lip scrub
Nothing can make your skin softer than ridding it of dead cells. You can achieve this with a great exfoliator and cleansing system. I like to exfoliate once or twice a week and use my Clarisonic the days I’m not exfoliating. I recently started using this exfoliating treatment and it absolutely lives up to its hype – I instantly noticed a difference. Here are the best tips I have found for using facial exfoliators:

  • After cleansing, apply an exfoliator in circular motions – keep pressure light to avoid wreaking havoc on your delicate skin.
  • You’ve probably heard a dozen different opinions on when to exfoliate and there is a simple explanation – it depends! Once a week is a safe place to start.

After exfoliating I use a soft toner to cleanse my face. I use this toner every night after I wash my face before I apply a nightly serum and moisturize (just started using this I love!). Moisturizing is a crucial step in your nightly routine. This is what allows your skin to rejuvenate at night.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so make sure to include a lip exfoliator in your skin care routine for a perfectly soft pout. Face scrubs and other abrasive exfoliators can do more harm than good on the thin layers of skin on your lips so you’ll definitely want to invest in one specifically designed for lips. I have forever loved this lip polish. It uses natural ingredients to exfoliate (sugar crystals) and condition and always leaves my lips feeling baby soft. I’ve also heard great things about this one. Don’t forget to put a moisturizing lip treatment on after. I love this one.

Too often our skincare routines focus only on our face, but we will be living with our bodies just as long. Give some extra TLC to the rest of you with a body exfoliator.

Of course exfoliation is only part of my skincare routine. Here are a few other favroite products in my skin care routine:

Clarisonic – this is a skin care essential! It does a deep clean on your skin and you can feel an instant difference between washing your face with this verse a wash cloth.

Epionce Renewal Face Cream – lightweight cream leaves your skin soft without feeling oily or heavy.

Clinique toner – used this for years, great basic cleanser.

Shiseido cotton pads – 100% cotton and my absolute favorite. I use this to apply my toner and remove my eye makeup.

Happy Monday everyone! A couple weeks ago we went to shoot an outfit post by the snowy trees and got super distracted. The kids and I ended up hiking through waist deep snow exploring. Holy cow it is a work out. I never realized how tiring it could actually be. I’ve never tried snow shoeing but after this I’ve put it on the top of my list of things to try. There is something so beautiful and serene about the peaceful outdoors freshly covered in a blanket of snow.

I got these snow boots this year and they have worked so well. They lace up tight so the snow doesn’t sneak in and they keep your feet super warm. I’m also in love with this black fur parka. Faux fur is a always a great way to add a sleek accent to your snow ensemble.

Cody and I have set a goal to start making healthier choices this year – not just staying active but also drinking more water and replacing my In-N-Out fries and McDonald’s vices with cleaner eating habits. I have had a lot of readers ask about my diet and workout routines so as Cody and I stick to smarter choices, keep an eye out for healthy eating recipes, fitness activities, etc. But first things first – today I want to talk workout wardrobe.

Believe it or not, I used to be the biggest tomboy. Truth be told, when I was younger I was set on being the first girl quarterback in the NFL. (I can still throw a pretty good spiral too – watch out Russell Wilson! 😉 From Kindergarten through 8th grade I basically lived in Nike and Reebok. Once high school hit my girly side came out, but I have never gotten over my love for activewear, especially Nike.

I am sure my boyish style back then was anything but inspiring (I really need to find a picture so we can share a laugh), but athletic clothes have become so fashionable since then. There are so many styles, cuts, and color variations available that you have just as much selection shopping for active wear as with anything else. Personally I love a little color when it comes to my fitness attire. I am obsessed with these leggings. I just ordered the pink pair (color: hyper punch) too! They are so soft it’s like having pajamas on. I’m also loving this bright pair. One tip I’ve found in mixing brights and patterns is choosing one print as your base. If I’m wearing a printed bottom I go for a solid top (or vice versa). So for today’s look I went with a striped zip up and unified it with solid leggings. Pay attention to the accents already in your pieces and tie those colors in other places (i.e the neon yellow nike check in the jacket – I repeated the color in my sports bra and pants). Take time to find a work out outfit you love. You want to pick pieces you are excited to wear so you are more inclined to get ready and go do active things!

Be sure to tune in next week! I am so excited to share a new project Cody and I have been working on!

By the time January rolls around I am ready to pack up all of my darks and trade them in for spring colors. But instead of waiting until the sun shows up, you can easily lighten up your look with winter white. White is year-round. From head to nail to toe, you don’t have to worry about dates or seasons when rocking the color. When Target invited me to share how I style winter white, I decided to share a few keys I’ve found to pulling off the trend:

1)   Seasons decide texture, not color. There’s a difference between white linen and white wool – only one will work for winter. Stick with heavier, winter textiles like fluffy sweaters, fur, wool (in love with this shawl!) , textured tops etc. White outerwear especially is one of the easiest ways to dip your toe into this color trend.

2)   Monochrome mix & match. Any monochromatic look is sure to be a winner, but head-to-toe white seems to take the cake, especially in a crowd of greys and blacks. The list of shades of white goes on forever, so picking a few complementary hues will be inevitable. If a white-out isn’t your thing, throw in a classic colored handbag or coat to keep that effortless but intentional effect.

3)  Bring white to your beauty routine. Try a white liner or a subtle white shadow around the corner of your eye. If you are more of a minimal no make up girl, go for a winter white mani. White nails are one of my favorites!

How are you incorporating white into your look this season?

3 Stripe Staples You Need in Your Closet

Hello-Fashion-Stripes

STRIPE TEE (OLD – SIMILAR SALE VERSION HERE AND HERE) || BLACK WATCH || CELINE BAG (NOT SOLD ONLINE – IN LOVE WITH THIS ONE)

Probably one of my favorite closet staples is stripe anything. From a basic stripe dress to a boat neck tee. You can’t go wrong with stripes. They are great foundation for pattern-mixing. Plus, as time has told, stripes are a classic chic look that never goes out of style. Below are the three closet stripe staples you need in your closet:

1. Boyfriend Stripe Tee: It has its obvious comfort appeal when paired down with jeans, but a boyfriend stripe tee is also surprisingly easy to dress up.  Striped tee + skirt + heel = no-brainer. For a more unique pairing try a striped tee, oversized cardigan and joggers paired with heels. I saw this look and was so inspired:

cute way to wear a stripe tee

2. Stripe Dress (also loving this grey stripe dress) Stripes look just as good with heels as they do with sneakers (just ordered these), so add a stripe dress to your wardrobe that works just as well from 9-to-5 as it does on weekends. Just opt for a hemline than would be considered office-appropriate (love this midi cut and this one) and accessorize accordingly. For a dressier office look opt for a stripe shirt dress.

3. Stripe Pocket Tee: Branch out of your basic black and white tees by opting instead for a striped tee with a pocket detail (isn’t this one perfect?). The pocket detail gives it a more relaxed feel. For a weekend look you can keep it basic by pairing it with cut off shorts and sandals or add a touch of sophistication to your relaxed vibes with a blazer and sneakers. Also loving this scoop neck one.

I just ordered these two stripe tops (long sleeve boat neck | short sleeve grey stripe). They are on major sale over 50% off. I have a couple of their tanks and they are so soft. My favorite!

How do you wear your stripes?

We have always loved to take Mio on walks but since we added a baby to the mix it is like a brand new experience. I can never tell who is more excited when it comes time for a walk – Mio or B. Every time we head out for a family walk, B instantly crack up and starts kicking his legs like crazy. He always gets a thrill out of his ‘pony’ rides. Mio still hasn’t added the word ‘heel’ to his vocabulary yet. Instead he grabs his leash by his mouth and acts like he is taking himself on a walk (which isn’t too far from the truth, actually – he weighs enough to do just about whatever he pleases!). As much as those two love walks, I think Cody and I might be the ones who enjoy our family walks the most since we get to witness how excited B and Mio get for the simple things. It has made family walks something we all look forward to.
Today I’m excited to share some of my favorites from Old Navy’s activewear sale. This long sleeve jersey tee (on sale under $20) is so soft I’m obsessed. Ive actually worn it with jeans too. It’s a great layering piece! They have so many colors I just ordered the bright pink (love my neons 🙂 Cody is always looking for good sweats. He got these jogger sweats in both colors.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

I have to admit 95% of the time Mio is really good with B, the other 5% he is just not in the mood. This usually comes after a big meal or run when he is trying to sleep, but that doesn’t stop B from wanting to play. It’s pretty comical because B is almost clueless by it. He starts laughing, laying on him, grabbing his collar, pulling on his ears, and kissing his head, all sorts or tricks trying to get his canine best friend to play, but Mio doesn’t budge. We are lucky that our 120 lb. gentle giant is so patient even when he’s tired 🙂

A lot of you have asked about these Hunters. They are actually kid’s shoes. I buy a lot of kids shoes! They usually have a brighter color palette in kids and they are cheaper. In case you didn’t know a kids size 5-6 is a women’s size 7-8. I am a 7.5 so it works perfect. Nordstrom’s product listing can be confusing sometimes so click on the color you like and then hit big kid and it will pop up the larger sizes. I am wearing a size 5 (hunters run big! also loving these pink ones). Also a lot of you asked about my nail color, and I got it done at a salon so I’m no sure the name I believe the brand was China glaze if I remember right….

Deer Valley & The 3 Stylish Snow Essentials You Need

DETAILS:
Navy Fur-Hooded Vest|| Denim||  Colorful Pom Pom Beanie || Boots || White Fleece || Striped Turtleneck (same style here) || Black and Gold Watch || Backpack (similar style here)

BECKAM’S: Fleece Bunting (also have this snow suit and love it)

I mentioned it in my post last week but we have really been on a snow kick this year. A couple weekends ago we went and spent the weekend up at the Montage in Deer Valley. The kids love staying in hotels and it’s always fun to break away for a couple days. The Montage is always one of our favorites. The kids love it because they get free stuffed animals when you check in (Mara is a stuffed animal hoarder 🙂 and they have s’more roasting every day with a hot cocoa bar. Cody’s favorite dessert is hot cocoa so it’s safe to say he loved it as much (if not more) than the kids. We also took advantage of the spa and got massages. The massage room overlooks the valley it’s so beautiful! We had so much fun playing in the snow, sledding, and discovering all that the resort had to offer. Can’t wait to go back!

With all the snow adventures we’ve had this year I’ve found three staples for creating a stylish (but warm) snow ensemble:

1. Cute Beanie. Beanies are the ultimate snow accessory. They can completely make an outfit. I can never get enough color so I’m partial to brightly colored beanies (North Face has some really cute ones this year!) but a neutral one (cream, grey or black) are winter staples as well. The neutrals are nice because you can dress them up with regular clothes without looking cheesy. And of course I am a firm believer in pom-poms in any colored beanie (I have this one and just ordered this one).

2. Fur Something. Fur (faux, for my taste) has been a runway and reality staple every winter – there is no better way to stay both chic and cozy. I especially love the faux-fur-trimmed jackets and vests. The fur adds an instant bit of glam to an otherwise basic ensemble, not to mention the  feminine balance it brings to the often boyish silhouettes that result from multiple layers of warmth. Nordstrom has so many great fur pieces I got both my faux fur trimmed vest and coat from them this year. If fur isn’t your thing, opt for a a fuzzy fleece to still create texture in your look (have this one and love it- super warm!)

3. Snow Boots. If your cold weather activities don’t require trekking through too much snow Uggs are a great choice. Just remember to spray them well with a water protectant and wear ski socks to keep your toes completely warm. I actually wore my Uggs snowmobiling a couple weeks ago because I forgot my snow boots. They fared way better than I anticipated. Of course if your plans include any amount of deep snow I would suggest a pair of lace-up snow boots (laced tight!) to keep snow from getting in (is there anything worse?). I got these boots this year and they work great. Plus they look cute with regular pants or snow gear.

Happy cold weather adventuring!

Christine

Style Resolutions

target_outfit

Stripe Dress | Nike Sneakers | Sunglasses | Michael Kors Cross Body

When Target challenged me to consider my style resolutions for the upcoming year, I didn’t think twice. I am a full believer in setting goals. Cody I have a journal we write down our personal, financial, and random goals we want to achieve over the year. When it came to my closet here were my top five:

  •  Take better care of my clothing: I recently forgot to spray a pair of shoes with the water and stain protectant before I took them out in the snow and completely ruined them. Grrr! Sometimes in the excitement of making an addition to my wardrobe I get too impatient and just throw them on the second I open the box, but I need to remember to take the time to care for it properly before, during, and after. I also want to start getting some of my pieces tailored. I love the oversized laid back look, but this year I want to take some of my favorite pieces to get them altered for the perfect fit.
  •  Trend to try: I have never hesitated pairing sneakers with a nice sweater or blouse, but this year I set a goal to make even my dressier looks more functional by pairing more unique pieces together i.e sneakers and a dress (already have this one) to get that sporty minimalism look.
  •  Give my feet a break: Since B has gradually become more mobile I have noticed a shift in my wardrobe. I hate to admit it, but it’s become fewer heels and a lot more sneakers. Although I will never give up my heels, I plan to give my feet a break by wearing sneakers and flat boots (or at least boots with lower heels if I can’t help myself 🙂
  • Get organized: Yikes this one scares me! My closet is a hot mess no less than 90% of the time but I am hoping to turn over a new leaf this year.
  • Stop hoarding: Instead of waiting for spring cleaning, I have already jumpstarted this resolution by majorly dejunking. I am setting a goal this year to minimize what I have and to get rid of what I have already accumulated that doesn’t get used. If you haven’t worn it in the last year – let it go! You won’t wear it!

It isn’t too late to set your own style resolutions if you haven’t already.

After your list of practical ‘should-dos’, throw in some fun resolutions. They might be a little easier to stick to than the rest. 😛 Start by paying attention to the styles you are drawn to and figure out ways to make them your own.

What are some of your New Year’s style resolutions?

Christine

Tips to Making a Dress Street Chic in Winter

street style outfitfair isle beanieblack over knee bootshello fashion blog outfitsDETAILS.
White Dress With Black Trim || Leather Moto Jacket (similar under $150 here, under $250 here | designer version here) || Black and White Print Beanie || Leather Backpack || Black Over-the-Knee Boots || Sunglasses || Tights || Gold Boyfriend Watch

As the new year begins I think we all begin to get excited for Spring and a new wardrobe. As much as I would like to believe the second Christmas is over the warm weather is on it’s way, the temperature says otherwise. Putting together a street chic look that will keep you warm in the frigid weather can sometimes be challenging. Instead of reverting to those cozy pieces (I think we could all live in soft hoodies and sweatpants!), keep in mind a few tricks for bringing out those Spring dresses in ways that make them unique and inspiring.

1. Dressy meets casual: Some of the most interesting looks are the ones that merge dressy and relaxed pieces into a effortless ensemble. I balanced out today’s dress with an edgy leather moto jacket (similar under $150 here), backpack, and a beanie. Step outside the typical pairing when opting for a dress.

2. Minimal is max (mostly): Understated looks can be some of the most alluring. Plus, minimalism is key to making budget outfits look more expensive. Think structured pieces or monochromatic tones. Don’t feel like you should skip that statement piece, though – an over-the-knee boot adds an extra bit of interest to today’s look.

3. Layer: Pulling a few accessories from your closet into your look gives you a variety of alternatives for chic (and warm!) street style. Hats, tights, scarves, etc. can transform a look when paired creatively with an ensemble. Layering pieces are always a great way to introduce detail or interest in an outfit.

4. Add Texture: You have probably heard this one a thousand times, but mixing textures is easiest during the winter. You have countless opportunities to incorporate different textures with your layers. From head to toe today’s look combined suede, leather, cable knit and more in just a few basic pieces.

What are some of your go-to’s for wearing a dress in the winter?

BECKAM’S OUTFIT: Blue Snowsuit || Knit Beanie

Every year after Christmas we go and spend time with my family in Montana. It’s always one of my favorite trips to relax and just kick back with the fam. This year we went snowmobiling and sledding on the border of Montana and Idaho. It is beyond gorgeous this time of year. The snow is so thick and caps all the tall pines like a painting.

In years past, I have not been much of a “snow girl”. I would avoid the cold like a plague, but this year I’ve changed my tune and really enjoyed being outdoors more. I could not get enough of B in his snow suit. He looked like the Michelin marshmallow man. I had gotten this camo one for him when it started to get cold, then fell in love with this one my friend Amber had so I ended up with both. I don’t know what it is about babies in little snow suits but they all look so cute in them! A lot of you asked about this pink pom pom beanie, Cody got it for me for Christmas (I love when he picks stuff out). I guess it’s actually from the kids section lol. He just knows how much I love neons so he got anyways, and it fits all the same!

I put together a little video from our trip. I accidentally recorded everything on my phone the wrong way so it doesn’t fit the screen, beginners mistake 🙂 but you can see it here: http://youtu.be/OhDffBZxfh8
