I love this drawing Mara did of the whole family. The kids are so good at art! I love to save it all, I have a box full of all the random pieces they have done through the years. I was so excited to be able to mail in one of their pieces to get framed. I’m obsessed with the floating mount they did!

tips to creating a gallery

We knew we wanted to get maps of places that were important to us and love these prints of Paris and London. Paris has always had special meaning to me, it was the first mother son trip I did alone with B, but getting to go back this summer with the whole family made it more magical. The Eiffel Tower was the kids’ favorite spot – more so than anywhere else we visited in Europe. Then London was the first place Cody and I went on our first real adult trip (being away from the kids for more than just a day); it was special to us because it’s also where Cody served his mission.

These are all tickets from memories or events that hold special meaning to me and Cody, but the best part is that Cody is actually the one that saved all of these ticket stubs! He has the first movie we went to and everything! He is always better about remembering dates and stuff than I am.

9 stands for the month Cody and I got married and it also has some other personal meanings behind it for both of us.

Styling tip: Stagger your frames to add depth and interest when you are laying out your frames. Cody proposed to me on a golf course and when we were getting to know each other we use to sit and talk for hours and  take walks on the golf course so we wanted to incorporate the meaning subtly and found this cool golf ball print.

We have been in our house for over a year and still haven’t hung any frames in our room! It’s something I’ve really wanted to do but we never got around to actually making it happen. It’s crazy because we literally take pictures every week, but I never got around to framing things.

Since our bedroom is more of an intimate space we wanted to create a gallery wall that was really meaningful to us, where every piece has a special meaning or memory behind it. Not all of those pieces were typical “art” pieces – some were drawings from the kids and little mementos we had saved over time which meant custom framing. I can be a bit of a perfectionist and overanalyze every single detail, so I had to map out everything and rearrange it 20 times because I am so indecisive lol.

Framebridge made it super easy and has visual mock-ups so you can really see and picture the space. You upload your prints or images (we also sent in some personal mementos we wanted framed – they send you a prepaId label and packaging so you can send the pieces in really easily) and view them in any frame until you decide on the frame you want. (You can use their gallery wall service for under $100 and they will create a mock up with the frames in your space.) I’m such a visual person, I liked getting a true picture of what it was going to look like before I had everything framed.

We wanted the design to be sleek but still light and airy so we decided to stick with thin white and black frames. We landed on the Mercer Slim black frames and Irvine Slim for the white frames and I love how clean and minimalist it turned out for the space. They also have some really cool embellished frames – I love this riveted style  and this rippled effect. I’m planning on getting for some other spots in our home.

Also I have to point this out because I am less than handy when it comes to hanging stuff! I have relied on my dad way tooooo much throughout the years to always help me. 🙂 All the frames came wired, with the proper nail and hook depending on the picture size. This was soooo helpful because when I went to hang the prints in my office it took my two trips to the store to get the right nails and wire to hang my pieces!

We had so much fun putting the wall together. It’s always crazy to me how much hanging things make a space feel so much better and that those sentimental reminders and mementos are so much better on display than in a box. 🙂 I’ve partnered with Framebridge to offer an exclusive discount code for you guys! First time customers can get 15% off now through December 9th 2016 with code: HELLOFASHION15. Framed pictures or art would be the best gifts for grandparents for the holiday!

5 Fast & Easy Hairstyle For When You’re Running Late

Anyone that knows me well knows that I am late a lot. I seriously try all the time to make it my new goal to be on time but after a couple weeks I’m still somehow always late! Cody is a lot better about being on time so hopefully sooner or later his timeliness rubs off on me! When your rushing out the door, trying to chase your kids from those mornings when you decided to hit the snooze a few too many times or those date nights when you only have a few minutes to freshen up after work, fast hair styles are essential. The messy bun and half-knot are some of my everyday favorites, but it’s always fun to have a few more styles on back up to switch up your hair game. I always like the messy looks the most, so I tried my hand at a few of new messy styles that are the perfect solution for that second-day hair when you only have a few minutes to get out the door.

5 quick hairstyles

First step is getting rid of the those greasy roots! I used Nexxus Dry Shampoo Refreshing Mist to tame my 3 day unwashed hair.

knotted pony

messy knotted pony

Knotted Pony:

Section your hair into two pieces and use each section to tie a knot with your hair. Knot as many times as you want depending on length and secure with a clear elastic or large bobby pin. It’s easy for ends to slip out so I used the Nexxus Volumizing Hair Whip to run through the ends so they piece together more and help stay in.

Low Knot:

This look is basically taking the knot pony one step farther and  pining up the remaining hair from the pony with a bobby pin under the knot bun.

Messy Bun:

My tried and true hairstyle you probably see me in the most on my blog besides when I wear my hair down. Believe it or knot, a good messy bun takes practice! You can find my tutorial for perfecting my messy bun here (hint – a thick hair tie and a lot of texture is key!)

Low Messy Pony:

Just like top knots, no two messy ponys are the same. I love the piecey, easy look of a low pony. I back comb the middle for volume.

low knot bun

low messy bun

low messy bun

Low loose knot:

Start with a low ponytail and fold the bottom half of the strand underneath and secure it with an elastic. For a messy, piecey effect, loosen a few strands with a fine tooth comb. Keep a strand toward the front of your face separate, and wrap it loosely around your elastic and secure with a bobby pin. Since this hair style is a loose messy look, I like to secure with Nexxus Comb Thru Finishing Mist to help secure the loose pieces from coming undone.

Low Braid:

There’s nothing prettier than a thick braid! Use a volumizing product and hair spray and pull at the strands after you secure it so it has that loose “lived in” look to create more volume.

Happy Monday! I am getting so excited about fall fashion – I’m already pulling out layers to get the most out of all the best fall trends this season. 😉 For me this time of year is the perfect chance to start mixing in some of your summer pieces with longer sleeves and light jackets for that transitional wardrobe. I love the look of this pretty denim skirt (under $25) with a long-sleeved blouse (love this trumpet sleeve detail! – also under $20).

A cropped sleeve jacket is also a must for fall before it cools off too much and you can make it work later in the season with a cozy sweater or button down layered underneath and the sleeves cuffed. This one is under $60 and so pretty! It also comes in a camel color.

This sandal is another great shoe for the season. The suede detail gives it more of a fall vibe and they just added so many pretty shades of this pair here all under $100. Top it off with a felt wide brim hat (this one under $40) and you are set for fall!

School is officially in full swing. As much as I love summer break, I think a part of the kids and even myself like the routine of school. And I am sooo excited for fall clothes! If it’s a little cloudy I am pulling out fall layers as an excuse to break into my fall wardrobe even though it’s probably cloudy and 75-80 degrees. Are you guys so excites for fall too?

Most of the back to school pieces I got for the kids are fall pieces. I like to get core pieces that are versatile enough that the kids can and will wear all through the year. That means pieces that will hold up well, can mix-and-match easily with other pieces, and that don’t break the bank. I always love Old Navy’s classic prints and timeless styles for kids, you guys have seen them on my blog a million times – it’s always one of our big stops for back to school shopping.

One of my favorites this year was this floppy hat for Mara (so excited to twin with her and I am always looking for cute hats for her! She’s a hat girl as much as I am!) These ankle booties (on sale) were a big score! I love little booties on her! They have zippers on the side so they are really easy to get off and on. In love with these high tops for the boys! I have gotten them in a different color every year. You can see the blue high tops from last year (they are still available this year) in this post. Also the boys’ henleys are another staple. We have gotten a few for Wes and Beckam in multiple colors every year. They are great for layering!

Below are some more of my favorite staples for girls and boys that are really easy to mix and match for back to school. I like to stick to pieces that are really versatile, darkers colors that don’t stain easily, and patterns that I can mi and match a lot (hello stripes and animal print!)

Every girl needs a basic black legging (Mara lives in them!). I love this baseball jacket for a casual layer. These faux-leather booties and backpack are also great staples that she will want to wear with a cute trapeze dress or jeans and a tee.

BOYS’ BACK TO SCHOOL BASICS: 1. BURGUNDY HENLEY (ON SALE – 30% OFF) | 2. GREY HAT (ON SALE – 40% OFF) | 3. OLIVE BACKPACK (ON SALE – 40% OFF) | 4. BUTTON-DOWN SHIRT (ON SALE – 40% OFF) | 5. Wes loves comfy clothes. This neutral pair of joggers (also got this pair) is great for him to move in and give him a little more motion than jeans. And I mentioned it earlier but love all  the high-top sneaker options they have for boys. Old Navy has great shoes for boys!

4 Fashion Essential Lifesavers for Everyday Style

Cody always teases me that I have way too many sunglasses! They clutter my cup holders and you can find random pairs in just about every nook and cranny of my car. But sunglasses are like lipstick: you can never have too many and they are all so different! I feel like they can make the most basic outfit pop and – as a mom – when you don’t want to do your make-up they are a life saver! Gotta hide those under eye bags 🙂 I have so many over-sized round frames and I’ve been trying to find the perfect more delicate round frame for that everyday California vibe. I just got these from Zenni Optical’s new LA Collection and love them! I’ve put together my list of 4 small essential fashion lifesavers for everyday style.

  1. Sunglasses: Sunglasses are the best secret weapon. For those mornings after you stayed up too late finishing a deadline or are still getting over that jetlag from your latest getaway (my sleep schedule still isn’t back on track!), there’s no faster fix than a cute pair of sunglasses. Just got these with amber tinted lenses and also loving these and these.
  2. Lipstick: You may not always have time for makeup, but between your sunglasses and a swipe of your go-to shade of lipstick, you’ll be the only one that knows you traded in a full face of makeup for those 10 extra minutes of sleep. 😉
  3. Gel Manicure: With regular nail polish my nails always chip in 2 seconds, and who has time to worry about touching up your manicure every other day? A fresh manicure always looks put together and gel polish will last the longest.
  4. Designer Bag: Another small detail that will always go a long way is a designer bag. They will elevate even the most basic jeans and tee combo.

I’ve partnered with Zenni to give one lucky reader up to $150 towards a new pair of Zenni sunglasses up. To enter, check out Zenni’s LA Collection video and comment with your favorite spots in LA. Winner announced next Thursday. 🙂 Good luck!

I can’t believe summer break is officially over!! The kids went back to school today {Tear emoji} Beckam is old enough now to realize he is missing out and tries to tag along with his own backpack – it’s so cute! Everyone thinks Mara and Wes are twins but Wes is actually 2 years younger than Mara. He’s starting 1st grade this year and Mara is going into 3rd. I swear yesterday she was starting Kindergarten!

I think I enjoy back to school shopping with the kids just as much if not more then the kids lol.  I’m such a shoe person that of course I can’t help getting into the shoe spirit picking out new shoes for the kids. I’m obsessed with these metallic lace-up ballet flats (under $30) we found for Mara. They are seriously so cute! I always get cute matching sneakers for the kids, and just got the boys this pair. I love that they are leather so they are easy to clean. I actually got these same sneakers for Wes last year too (post here) and just ordered the bigger this year.

Wes gets hot really easy, but likes to have sleeves, so I always struggle to find light weight hooded layers for school. I love all these lightweight graphic hoodies (comes in multiple designs). He loves having a hood and you can never have too many thin layers for school. We also got this great classic hoodie.

Black and white doesn’t mean boring. It’s hands down the most timeless color combo and one that will never go out of style and it’s the perfect simple, understated look to add a bright, bold pump to. 😉

I love finding statement pieces in black or white because I know it’s something I’ll be able to wear forever and pair with anything. Knotted details are taking over right now from knotted sleeves to knotted dresses and hems and I’m obsessed! I love a crop length top with an oversized knot (how pretty is this chambray one!). Show some skin for date night or pair it with a high-waisted pencil skirt or trouser to make it office appropriate. It’s such a fresh silhouette that’s current, classic and so sophisticated! I also love the knotted back detail on this one and this off the shoulder is so good!

One of the nights we were exploring I saw these sandals in the window of a boutique and they stopped me in my steps. Everyone kept walking and I’m yelling babe!! I need these sandals!! He was already 100 feet ahead chasing Beckam who can’t hold still for more than 2 minutes. When I caught up I was like “WE HAVE TO GO BACK, I just found the most beautiful sandals!” He knows I impulsively buy things a lot lol, so he’s like if your still thinking about them tomorrow we can go back. Well of course I was, I couldn’t stop thinking about them! So we went back and I found out they were handmade in Greece! Made them my special momento from the trip. I think I wore them almost everyday after because I loved them so much! Since they are kind of one of kind sandals, and I can’t link to them,  I wanted to put together a few similar options. I love this blue tassel pair and this fun colorful gladiator sandal.  This silver pair is a great option for a more neutral take and this is a great budget-friendly alternative under $100.  Check out a few more options below.

DETAILS: WHITE OFF-THE-SHOULDER DRESS (UNDER $100 | LOVE THIS ONE) | BLACK MULES

Happy Monday guys! This was one of the first outfits I wore in Santorini! I have been obsessed with all things ruffled. After I got this dress in orange (last seen here) it was so good I had to get it in both pink and white. It’s under $100 and such a steal! I love the pink and purple straps on this one – such a fun detail! It’s a fun flirty dress I would have worn every day if I could have gotten away with it 😉 – definitely a must-pack dress for any summer getaway! Find a few more great ruffled pieces below.

I’ll be sharing more pics and our travel diary soon so stay tuned!
