Ultimate Travel Guide: 9 Must-Do’s and Don’ts in Maui

Ultimate Maui Travel Guide

This post is so long overdue – I had shared a couple posts here, here, and here when we were in Maui, but wanted to share a mini travel guide of some of our Do’s and Don’ts for Maui!

FIRST ONE is 1. DON’T: Over book. Maui is a really laid-back, slow-paced spot and even though there’s so much to do on the island, you won’t be able to appreciate it with a full itinerary. Cody’s family is always go-go-go on vacation and I tend to lounge more, so I think it ends up being a good balance – where there’s enough on your schedule to keep you moving but not too much that you don’t have down time. There’s nothing better than finding a good hammock with a view, or a pretty spot to let B get some energy out.

2. DO: Stay at the Four Seasons Wailea. The property is right on the beach (a non busy beach which is nice!) We were constantly going back and forth from the beach to the pool so I loved the location! Infiniti pools are my all time favorite, but they are 1000x better with a view overlooking the beach. So pretty! The rooms are so spacious, especially the bathrooms! I love having big bathrooms when we are at beachy places because we are always all usually trying to get ready so fast after the pool or beach to head to dinner and explore more. The resort has great restaurants and daycare so you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to, but there is a lot of stuff right by the Four Season’s too: shopping within quick walking distance, good restaurants, and of course beaches.

Tell me this isn’t the best ‘Wet Floor’ sign you’ve ever seen at a resort! I have an obsession with pineapples!!

3. DO: Cliff jump. Even if you are afraid of heights, or don’t think jumping off a cliff into the ocean is something you would ever want to do, DO IT!!! There is nothing like the rush of doing something you never think you would do!Make sure you get a photo to prove it though. 😉 We went cliff jumping over by Kapalua Bay it’s on the opposite side of the island about 45minute drive so plan a day for exploring and seeing different beaches.

4. DO: Stop at the Fresh Fruit Stands! I couldn’t get enough of all the cool food trucks and fresh fruit stands.  This smoothie stand was so cute and of course everything tasted amazing (would you expect anything less of fresh fruit in Hawaii? haha). Also obsessed with all the pineapples!

5. DON’T: Be afraid to go barefoot! Embrace the island, go no makeup, go barefoot! It’s seriously so freeing!

6. DO: Pay attention to the waves and currents! We went to Big Beach and jumped right in. We heard the waves were big but didn’t think much of it – I thought I was a strong swimmer then the under current kicked in and me and my friend both got sucked under. The life guard is yelling get out of the water get out of the water lol. What was more funny is literally two minutes later, local kids were rolling in the waves no big deal! The locals definetly handle the waves soooo much better but don’t under estimate how strong the current is! It can easily suck you under!

7. DO: Catch every sunset. I always make it a point, no matter where we are traveling, to have a good view at sunset. Cody teases me that I comment on how amazing the colors are, and that I’ve never seen anything prettier, and then say the exact same thing 30 seconds later and repeat it about 10 times before the sun actually sets. The Four Seasons Wailea has some amazing view points for a good view of sunset over the water. Nothing beats those colors! Also wait it out!!! The first picture below is at the verrrrrry end of the sunset the colors all of sudden went crazy bright and colorful like nothing I have ever seen before. The ones below that pic are earlier in the sunset so wait it out for the rich colors! They only last seconds but they are so beautiful!!

8. DO: Go to the cutest lemonade and smoothie place on the island. It’s called Wow Wow Lemonade! Typing this post is already making me crave their delicious smoothies again!

wow wow lemonade maui

9. DO: Take a private helicopter ride to a secluded waterfall! This is an exclusive experience through the Four Seasons and hands down, the coolest thing we did in Maui! They take you on a private helicopter tour to a private, secluded waterfall (up to 4 passengers :). I was screaming so much I lost my voice before we even landed at the waterfall. It was an open-door helicopter so we got that adrenaline rush but the views were even more of a rush. Seriously I can’t even describe it, but it’s one of those things that I never would have thought to add to my bucket list but now that I’ve done it I can’t suggest it enough. These pictures don’t even do it justice, but it was such a trip! I’ll be sharing more pictures soon but had to share a few!

Sweaters & Stripes

Obsessed with these shoes! A lot of you have asked about them and they are under $100. I wear them all the time! For sure one of my favorite shoes.

DETAILS: STRIPED CHENILLE SWEATER (UNDER $100 – GOT BOTH COLORS) | DISTRESSED DENIM (UNDER $50 – ALSO GOT THESE OVERALLS) | BLACK FUR LOAFERS (UNDER $100) | GREY LEATHER BACKPACK | LIP COLOR (SHADE: DEVIOUS)

Sweater weather is in full force and I have been seriously getting in the spirit (and so has my shopping bag haha). I’ve been finding so many amazing sweaters and wanted to share some of my recent buys. I saw this one in the yellow and pink first and was instantly obsessed but then I saw that it also comes in this pretty red shade and was in love. It has different color combos on the back and I feel like it’s the perfect way to bring some fun color into my fall rotation. I also got this colorblocked one and obsessed with this velvet one – so cozy! These loafers have also been on repeat. They are under $100 and go with everything, plus they are so easy to slide on and off which is always the biggest selling point for me haha.

4 Fall Skincare Saves

I always get tons of questions about my skincare routine and beauty products. Now that summer is over and we are gearing up for winter, I feel like your skin needs even more TLC. I’ve been using Vichy for over a year and a lot of their products continue to be some of my skincare favorites. I have really sensitive skin so I wanted to share some of those skincare issues we’ll all face this season and some go-to fixes.

1. Stress: Sure stress is a year-round problem, but with less sunshine and vitamin D, stress seems to take a stronger toll more during fall and winter. With the rush of the holidays coming up and the busy season for work, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately and have noticed the stress really affects my skin. I love Mineral 89 for a good face moisturizer that also has Vichy’s 15 mineral-rich Thermal Water and Hyaluronic Acid for some extra hydration that will help balance your skin during those high-stress seasons. Mineral 89 is a 100% transparent gel formula that can be used as the first step in your routine, or as a stand-alone moisturizer (it’s paraben and oil-free).

2. Dry skin: With the weather drying out, you should be hydrating regularly. That means extra water and never skipping your face moisturizer, but for your moisturizer to work properly you need to make sure you’re exfoliating to get rid of dead skin build up so your moisturizer is more effective. I’ve been using Vichy’s Double Glow Peel Face Mask – it has a volcanic rocks and AHA fruit acids to gently remove dead skin cells, and I’m obsessed with how soft it leaves your skin.

3. Pollution: Living in a valley, there is really bad pollution here in Salt Lake. There are always so many factors you have to pay attention to with skin that I didn’t ever think pollution was one of the main ones, but my dermatologist told me that the air is so bad here that everyone’s skin is more prone to fine lines and other issues because of the pollution. The inversion always gets worse in the winter so I’ve been making a more concerted effort to use products that protect the skin. Mineral 89 has been great and I also really love Vichy’s Micellar Water, which is a 3-in-1 product to remove makeup, purify and soothe skin and gently remove impurities and pollutants from the skin. I’ve been using the Micellar Water and Vichy’s Makeup Remover interchangeably for over a year and they’re my all-time favorites!

4. Lack of sleep: My skin is always the first tell of a late night or early morning, so Vichy’s Idealia line (all about brightening!) is perfect for those sleepless nights. I love the Radiance Boosting Serum and Energizing Day Cream – they are full of antioxidants so this line evens skin tone, smoothes fine lines, and provides 24-hour hydration while infusing skin with a healthy glow.

If you guys haven’t tried Vichy yet, they gave me a code for you guys to get 20% off your order at vichyusa.com – just use code: CHRISTINE at check out by 12/31.

Happy Monday! It was the most beautiful weekend here – the sun was out, the leaves are all changing colors and starting to fall so we had fun getting in the spirit doing all things fall! Let me prefece by saying I am not much of a cooker or a baker but I made 3 meals at home this weekend and felt like I conquered the world lol. I know pretty pathetic! We made pumpkin cookies, did a Halloween spooky dinner, and made ginger Halloween ginerbread houses. It was such a fun weekend with the kids! Also if you don’t already follow along I started an Instagram account for Beckam and I post all his outfit details and more personal pics there: @beckamandrew 🙂

One of my favorite combos this season is a mini dress or oversized sweater with over-the-knee boots. I’m obsessed with this tunic which doubles as an oversized sweater or a mini sweater dress. It comes in 5 colors and is a great price point. It’s a really effortless pairing you can wear with heeled boots (been wearing these non-stop) for a night out or during the day with some flat over-the-knee boots. Also just got this sweater in red and blue and this one! Below are some more great mini-dress and boot combos I love:

Embellished

This red bag!!

These boots are still one of my all time favorites!

DETAILS: BLACK HOODED SWEATSHIRT (ALSO GOT THIS ONE) | BLACK PATENT LEATHER SKIRT (SIMILAR HERE) | EMBELLISHED BOOTIES | RED GIVENCHY CROSSBODY BAG

If there’s one thing the turns any piece into a statement, it’s embellishment. I love how bold embellishments are being incorporated into so many different pieces this season from jackets and statement outerwear, to shoes and accessories. You guys recognize these boots from last year – I’m obsessed with the pearl detail! If you regretted not getting them last year, definitely pull the trigger! They are such an amazing statement piece and one you will wear with everything! Also obsessed with this patent pair. How pretty is that bee detail?? If you worry embellishments are too much of a statement for you, start simple and tone it down with a monochromatic look – it’s impossible to get wrong.

I’ve also been wanting a colorful bag this season (I’ve been on too much of a neutrals kick!) and I loved this one. Red is always a timeless color that never goes out of style. Also love the metallic chain detail – it’s a simple embellishment but adds an edgy vibe.

Barneys New York has so many great options for those statement pieces. Right now you can get a $350 gift card for every $2000 spent on women’s ready-to-wear, jewelry, accessories, or shoes. Below are more great embellished pieces I’m loving!

OUTFIT DETAILS: TAN SATIN TOP | GREY KNIT CARDIGAN | DENIM | AVIATORS | SNEAKERS | CROSSBODY

You don’t realize it, but jewelry can completely transform your outfit. Even such a simple detail can be a total game-changer! I’m always on the go, and between trying to get the kids ready and in the car, honestly sometimes it’s enough of a feat to get dressed and out the door with a bag and shoes haha. I’ve learned to keep a lot of my jewelry in my car so instead of an afterthought it’s become more of a habit to finish accessorizing in the car.

I can’t get enough of dainty pieces! I think that’s probably 90% of my jewelry collection right now, from pretty stacked rings to layered chokers and necklaces – they are pieces that you can wear with anything and everything. I just got these from Rocksbox – it’s such a great way to get a jewelry refresher for the season. It’s a membership service so you can try out new styles and different designers before you buy them.  If you haven’t tried it yet, you can get your first month free with code: hellofashionxoxo if you sign up between now and October 31st. It’s also a great gift idea for the holidays coming up.

Happy Monday guys! This fall is the season of hats, and I have been on a winning streak finding some great ones. I love how they complete a look!  This beret is under $100 and it comes in 4 colors (also got it in white) and is the perfect finishing touch to balance out the leather jacket and combat boot combo. I also got a ton of questions on this hat (last worn here) – I got it from the men’s section but I loved the look and it was under $20, so can you blame me? Below are a few more great hats I’m loving under $100!

CODY’S OUTFIT:

I love being outdoors in the fall – there’s nothing cozier than throwing on some warm layers for a crisp fall night out with your S/O! You can really have so many great adventures outside, even after fall hits so I’m excited to share 5 outdoor date ideas to try this season.

1. An Outdoor Hike: Whether you’re the type that likes to make it to the summit or are just as content getting high up enough for a good view, a hike always makes for a great date. Cody and I packed some journals (we are trying to stay focused on things we are thankful for, and this 5 minute journal is perfect) and some yummy snacks. Cody doesn’t drink but I love a glass of wine every now and then. I love these Barefoot Wine Refresh Spritzers because you don’t have to carry the whole bottle with glasses around so it’s super convenient to turn an ordinary night into something special. I tried a couple of flavors – this one was summer red but Moscato is my favorite.

2. Explore Your Own Backyard: Sometimes you are so focused on exploring the highlights of where you live that you forget to explore your own neighborhood! We live right by the mountains, so instead of heading for some of the more popular canyons nearby, Cody and I explored a few back roads in our area and found some great mountain views that we had all to ourselves.

3. A Scavenger Hunt: Cody and I are really competitive (it takes us like 6 hours to play card games because we always want a rematch lol) so any date that let’s us get competitive is right up our alley. Make a scavenger list of fall items like a pumpkin, red leaves, scarecrows etc. and see who can find everything first.

4. A Starlit Picnic: Who needs dinner by candlelight, when you have the stars? Or for those cloudy nights, make your own starlight by setting up string lights for a picnic. These battery-operated lights are perfect.

5. Get the Fall Feels: What’s fall without a pumpkin patch? Go pick out pumpkins and challenge each other to a carving competition or get spooked in a corn maze. I’m the biggest wimp when it comes to scary things so I always opt for the happy corn mazes but Cody loves the scary ones, so whatever fits you guys!

What are some of your favorite outdoor date ideas?

It’s not that I was hesitant to get my first pair of combat boots, but I was really picky about getting the right pair. I wanted something that wasn’t too bulky but that was still really versatile so I could get a lot of wear out of them. Then I saw these and loved them soooo much I had to have them (felt the same way about this pair too 😉). The striped ankle strap is such a good detail and I love the white laces that make them pop with any outfit.

They definitely have a casual, sporty feel to them but I’ve already worn them with so much! An edgy combat boot is the perfect way to amp up a casual jeans and sweater look (just got this style in both black and this wash and I love the cropped hi-low hem – so unique!) You can also pair your combat boots with a mini skirt for more of a feminine balance. I ordered this velvet one and it’s a great option to bring into your fall rotation (this one runs a little big so size down if you are between sizes).

The Saks Friends & Family sale is running from today through Sunday so it’s a great time to score 25% off those pieces you wouldn’t normally buy at full price, whether that’s designer shoes or just closet staples.

Below are some more of my favorites from the sale:

And a few more incredible combat boot options – how pretty is this pearl pair??

You guys know I love finding budget-friendly pieces so I wanted to share some of my recent buys, most of which are under $100. It’s always the details that get me, so I love all the tie-sleeve sweaters this season. I love this one (which I also got in grey). And this blazer! I love the long hem and the cropped sleeves are perfect to show of those pretty sleeve details. I also got these jeans (under $100) in store and they are so good in person – love the wash and the light distressing. I always end up grabbing a few BP necklaces – they are always under $20 and such good options for layering.

These shoes were the exception at $100, but they are just went on sale for under $100! When it comes to budget-friendly looks I usually style them with higher-end shoes because it really elevates the look, but in this case these pumps looked designer so they worked perfectly. I love the asymmetrical embellishments on the toe and it’s a statement shoe so you can add it to any simple look to put it over the top.
