Beautiful destinations are one of my favorite sources of inspiration. There is nothing better than being barefoot in the sand with the family. Dressing with a tropical beach in mind is a sure fire way to nail a perfect summer look beyond your go-to tanks and boyfriend cut-offs. One of my favorite summer styles is the off-the-shoulder style – I just added this dress (under $30) from Nordstrom Rack to my collection and can already tell it will be on repeat this season. I especially love the bright blue, a color that always reads ‘island getaway’ to me. I also love it in this color which pairs flawlessly with a nice tan.

To add interest to a look, especially a staple like a solid sun dress (and to be prepared for an afternoon rain storm or restaurants blasting AC), a light jacket is key. A washed-out denim jacket is one of my favorites for summer since it’s both lightweight and versatile – I love the way it pairs with a summer dress for a casual effect. Tie it around your waist for an equally summery (and cool) vibe. Love the wash of this one too. Top it off with a sun hat (this cute one is under $20), sunglasses and gladiator sandals, and all that’s missing is your ticket to an island getaway 😉

What to Wear to A Wedding Do’s and Don’ts

Wedding season is already in full swing. Admittedly, it is one of my favorite times of year. I love everything about weddings and the excuse to dress up is just icing on the cake. Here are a few rules to remember when dressing for a wedding this season.

1.) The unforgivable sin. It’s not about you! Don’t steal the show by wearing white or something that distracts in any way from the bride on her big day. Also steer clear of wedding colors to avoid being mistaken as a member of the bridal party. If the wedding colors are a mystery to you, patterns are a safe bet – love the understated elegance of this print.

2.) Don’t bare it all. Sure, weddings are a great opportunity to flaunt your favorite feature but do yourself a favor and stick to just one feature – either your legs, shoulders, or back (love this dress). To avoid going too revealing up top, an illusion neckline is a subtle, sexy look.

3.) Pay attention to detail. Check the invite for clues on dress code. For black-tie affairs, the sky (and the knee) is the limit – avoid any hem too far above the knee. I love the cut and detailing on this dress. For beach, light colors and flowing fabrics are key; love this classic chiffon dress.

When it doubt, play it safe somewhere in the middle. While long dresses can typically read more formal, a jersey or cotton material (like this one-shoulder one) helps it read slightly more casual. On the other hand, a cocktail dress with embellishments like beading or lace can translate a dress with a shorter hem into something more formal.

Less is More: 3 Keys to A Chic Minimal Look

DETAILS: WHITE BLAZER  (UNDER $100) || WHITE TANK || DISTRESSED DENIM || NUDE HEELS (MORE SIZES IN SIMILAR STYLE HERE) || BLUSH CLUTCH || SUNGLASSES || EARRINGS || GOLD BRACELET

I am a firm believer that a lot of times less is more when it comes to fashion. Minimalism is the ticket to pulling this look off. Here are a 3 easy ways to hit that perfect, basic minimal look:

1.) Start with crisp, clean whites or a classic white & nude or black & white color combo for a quintessential minimalist look.

2.) By simplifying all other features in a minimalist look, the structure and cut of a piece becomes the focal point of a look. The biggest key to putting together a successful minimalist look is sharp lines – it makes the minimalism look intentional instead of accidental. I love the cut and lapel of this white blazer – the structure and crisp white look is understated but elegant. Also loving this long sleeveless vest for spring and summer.

3.) Just because accessories are your thing, don’t count yourself out of the minimalist game! Simple accessories like a dainty thin bracelet, stackable rings (love this set!), or other understated jewelry puts the finishing touches on any minimalist look.

BIG NEWS: Nordstrom half yearly sale just started today!! You know Nordstrom is my like one in all store so I am excited to hit up the deals (UP TO 40% OFF!). Below are a few of my favorites – I will share more this week. This sweater I wore in a couple posts ago is 40% off. I’m dying over these shoes and I just added this and this to my shopping bag.

6 Reasons to Become a Hat Person

outfits hello fashion

hats hello fashion blog

DETAILS: WHITE SWEATER || BLACK JACKET (SIMILAR HERE) || DISTRESSED DENIM (SIMILAR HERE, LOVE THESE) || WEDGES (MORE SIZES HERE) || BLACK FRINGE TOTE || FEDORA || SUNGLASSES || GOLD WATCH

Hats are one of my favorite accessories to wear year around. Lately the wide-brim hats and fedoras have been on constant repeat in my wardrobe. It’s a statement detail that instantly makes any look more interesting and it’s also a quick and simple addition to your outfit. The biggest misconception about hats is that only certain people can pull them off. Nothing could be further from the truth! Here are 6 tips to styling hats like a pro.

1. First things first- pick a hat that fits! It should sit squarely on your head and cover most of your forehead.
2. For a tried and true style, select hats that look like they could fit in during any season, like a classic fedora or straw wide brim hat. Those classic styles are timeless for a reason and are seamless to pull off.
3. Hat hair makes all the difference. With a wide brim hat, play up your natural hair texture when wearing your hair long and loose. A low ponytail and loose braid are other hairstyles perfect for wearing a hat.
4. Hats are no respecter of seasons. When paired with a summer dress or distressed cut-offs, felt hats can be easily transitioned into spring and summer.
5. For an effortless way to style a hat, keep the rest of your accessories and outfit details basic. A hat carries a lot of weight in your look, so taking the rest of ensemble minimal creates a much-needed balance.
6. Confidence is key. The single greatest tip to successfully rock any hat is to wear it with confidence.

PINK LONG-SLEEVE TEE || WHITE DENIM || PINK BALLET FLATS  (SIMILAR HERE AND HERE) || BLUSH HAT (LOVE THIS ONE)

Last weekend I made a quick day trip to Santa Clara for the day to host an event with Glamour and Estee Lauder for Mother’s Day. Everyone that came had a chance to get their makeup done for free, pick out flowers for their mom and have their picture taken. It turned out so cute! A few of the moms had their daughter and their mom there so they were able to take three generation pictures. Just seeing the moms with their little girls was so sweet.

One of the lead stylists did my makeup and I love the color they used on my eyes! She combined this palette (color: provocative petal) and this palette (ivory power) and used a cream liner (color: pearl) instead of white to make the eyes pop. Apparently white can sometimes read more harsh – so she suggested using a softer cream tone for a more natural look. I wore this lipstick (two colors combined: ambitious pink paired with powerful)

BECKAM’S OUTFIT: GREEN HENLEYSWEATS

We are moving today! We are in the middle of building a house and the house we are currently living in sold, so we have to move to a rental until we finish building our new home. It was a little emotional finishing packing everything yesterday since this is the only house Beckam has known. There  are so many special memories here from the first time he crawled and walked, to the first time he gave me a hug and called me mama. I’m excited for our new adventures but it’s always hard to close a chapter on a special couple years.

Today’s look is composed of simple, classic pieces. I found this fedora and this sweater (on sale) in my closet while I was packing and it was one of those happy surprises that I forgot I owned. The sweater is now on sale – 40% off. It has a really pretty subtle panel of chiffon on the back so it makes it a little more unique than a regular sweater (and also feel more springy). These loafers I about had a heart attack when I saw them! They were the last pair in my size in the whole company. I was so excited. I have been looking for pointed loafers for MONTHS! I love them so much I have been on the hunt for another pair and found some cute alternatives. This style is the closest to the ones I’m wearing and they are on sale for under $50. This style I am OBSESSED with and just ordered for myself along with these ones. Below are a few more cute styles I found:

8 Easy Ways to Connect with Your Kids

hello fashion blog family

beckam little dude lemon pop

connecting with kids

OUTFIT DETAIL: MY ROMPER- LEMON POP | CODY, WES, AND BECKAM’S SHIRT – LEMON POP | MARA’S DRESS – LEMON POP

It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day: running the kids to school, cleaning, changing diapers, etc and forget to take time to connect with your kids. I am 100% guilty of it, I may be with them, but there are days I feel guilty and wonder how present I was. I notice it 100% with Beckam, the days he’s whiny and crying I look back and realize I wasn’t taking time just to laugh and play with him. I did some research and psychologists suggest that kids need at least 10 minutes of connection time a day to feel loved.  That’s so small in comparison to the 12+ hours they are typically awake. Obviously more is better, but some days it seems like you don’t even have 10 minutes to breathe. So I’ve put together a list of eight easy ways we’ve found to connect with the kids. Let me preface by saying I don’t claim to be a parenting expert but hope to encourage you guys and create a conversation. I think we all want to be good parents so I would love to hear what easy ways work for you? I’m always looking for new ideas and ways to spend time with the kids.

Bedtime Rituals: We try to read stories to the kids every night before bed – I wish I could say we pull it off every night, but it just doesn’t happen. One thing we always do before bed while we cuddle them in is ask each kid the favorite part of their day and what they are looking forward to tomorrow. Getting their perspective on life is key to staying connected, even through something so simple.

Hide & Seek & Chase: B is just hitting that age where playing hide and seek / chase are the highlight of his day. I duck behind the sofa and he remembers all the obvious spots to look for me – he is always so excited when he finds me he screeches so loud and starts laughing like crazy. Mara and Wes love it too! It becomes a family game through out the house. I have to say its quickly become one of my favorite things to do with them.

Wrestling: Cody loves to wrestle with the kids and it’s a fun way to keep them active and help them release some pent up energy. 🙂 And the kids aren’t the only ones who can’t wait to play ‘rough’ with dad! Mio gets so excited he runs in circles around the couches when he realizes its wrestle-time.

Dance Party: B is fascinated by music videos and always dances along – his moves are contagious so they always end in an impromptu dance party. Sometimes Wes and Mara get a little shy, but B’s funny dance moves always bring the laughs and get the dance party going.

Hidden Notes: My step mom used to do this for me and it was something I always looked forward to as a kid. I like to tuck a note in Mara’s lunchbox on random days with her favorite sticker for school.

Disconnect: Your phone, thats it. It’s hard to connect with the kids before you disconnect from the rest of the world, so put your phone down. This is one of the simplest but also most important things we can do.

Cuddle: You can never give your kids too many hugs or kisses. I am a huge cuddler and love movie nights with the kids when we all pile on the couch and watch their favorite shows. They always want their back tickled or arm tickled and it’s the moments I know won’t last for long so I try and savor them.

Get Outside: Whatever your schedule, find ways to get outdoors for at least 10 minutes a day. We try to move some of our daily habits outside, everything from a daily chat and games of tag, to sitting on our patio at sunset with our bedtime snack.

Shopping: Shopping with kids can always be challenging especially if there is more than one child with you, but once in a while we make it a family event. I like to find a store that caters to the whole family and let the kids pick out one of their favorite item. We usually set a dollar amount so they don’t over-indulge 🙂 Letting them explore their own tastes and interests is almost as fun as watching their tastes develop.

Today I have partnered with LemonPop to share some great (and affordable) finds for the whole family. I’m excited to share that they are expanding their current locations (Azalea shopping center in CA and Rockland Plaza in NY) to 2 new locations in New Jersey. Their Ellisburg Shopping Center will celebrate its grand opening this weekend and the Mercer Mall location will be opening May 22nd.

You can follow along on the launch of the new LemonPop locations and their new family collections at @shoplemonpop and facebook.com/shoplemonpop.

DETAILS: FLORAL DRESS || WHITE CLUTCH || SPRING TRENCH || WATCH (SIMILAR HERE) || PATENT NUDE HEELS (SIMILAR HERE)

Bodycons are by far one of my favorite dress silhouettes. It’s a subtle way to emphasize your curves, especially when toned down with a longer hemline. Combined I think it is one of the most elegant and feminine silhouettes – a perfect mix of sexy and sophisticated – so when I came across this dress I couldn’t resist.

I was also instantly drawn to the bright pink straps that add a fun, unexpected detail to the dress (shop this dress and the rest of the look 20% off starting at midnight!). It’s always the little things like something as simple as straps that can make a piece feel unique and interesting. What are some the smaller details you pay attention to?

Ted Baker is running 20% off store wide starting tomorrow May 7th through May 8th. Get this look on sale online (in love with this dress and clutch!) or visit their in store event tomorrow May 7th for drinks and a free gift. I have my eye on this dress and this mint lace one when the sale starts. Also love these gorgeous floral pumps.
