Why I love Designer Bags

Hey guys! Hope you all had a weekend! It was the first weekend in over a month we were home all weekend and let me just say it felt amazing! I finally got the house clean, and the laundry done, I don’t think I put on make up all weekend and we got to catch up with friends we hadn’t seen in forever. It was just so nice to be home!

When it comes to investment pieces, handbags are always at the top of my list of things I save up for. They do so much to elevate any outfit and make budget looks seem higher end. I just got this Celine last week and I am obsessed. I don’t get all my bags brand new, Trendlee is one of my go to spots for discounted high-end designer handbags. They have so many pretty pieces but I am always such a sucker for Celine. This Hermes is next on my list. How pretty is it?!

Day to Night Make Up

Nothing is more frustrating then having your makeup wear off midday, especially when you have a full night ahead. Sure we might go more dramatic at night, but that doesn’t mean we have time to start over from scratch. The key to taking your beauty look from day to night is all in the foundation so I wanted to share a day-to-day makeup look and how I transform it to night using Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish 25 HR Foundation as the base.

DAY: I love fresh face for day, so a great moisturizer, primer, and foundation are my main tools in the morning.

  1. Start with a clean, bare face.
  2. Add primer for a smooth base and long-lasting wear to get you through both day and night. I used this one.applying foundation hello fashion
  3. Apply foundation. I love this one because it has built-in sunscreen too .You are building everything on foundation, so you’ll want something that stays put. Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish 25 HR Foundation is as long-lasting as the name suggests. It has a natural matte finish which is great for a lightweight and natural look and is also a perfect base for building a more dramatic look at night. (For this tutorial I used shade 300.)

NIGHT: What I love about this foundation is that I don’t have to reapply or touch it up before going out for the night. It is long-lasting and full coverage so transitioning to night with a more dramatic look is quick and easy. Contouring is one of my favorite techniques to amp it up before a night out. Follow these tips to transition your look from day to night.
fresh-face

1. Highlighter: Use a lighter shade of your foundation or concealer for natural looking highlighter (I used Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation shade 100.)  Apply to the bridge of your nose, above your cheekbones, under your eyes, and your forehead to emphasize where light would be reflected naturally. I also have dark lines around my mouth I apply highlight as well.how to contour

where to contour

2. Contour: A liquid contouring product is great for precision. If you are still on the hunt for the right contouring shade, 2 shades darker than your foundation is generally a safe place to start. Before you apply and start blending, map out your contouring beforehand. Focus on your hairline, the hollows of your cheeks, along the bridge of your nose, and along your chin and jawline.

contouring hello fashion
3. Be prepared to blend. The right tools are everything when it comes to contouring. I swear by the beauty blender for applying all my liquid makeup. Tip: dampen the sponge so it holds a little bit of moisture. It will apply more smoothly plus it doesn’t absorb your makeup when you apply it.evening make up hello fashion

4. Don’t forget to add a bold lip in your favorite share and a little shadow to finish the transition from a fresh face to a glam look for the night.

Voila! An easy way to take your day makeup to night with a long-lasting foundation.

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

Whether I’m traveling or have a busy day at work I love how the 25 hour foundation lasts all day from day to night.

It was so great to meet you guys at the Neiman Marcus Fall Trend event this weekend! I mentioned it on my Snapchat already, but truly one of my favorite perks of blogging is meeting you guys so thanks so much for coming out! Can’t wait for my next visit to another city to see more of you!

Fall is almost here and I couldn’t be more excited to pack away my shorts and layer on those sweaters. I wanted to share some of my favorite trends coming up this season for fall:

1.) Seeing Red: One of the big colors for fall is shades of red. Whether it’s wine, oxblood, burgundy, marsala, I am all over it from head to toe. I love the shade of this dress so much I’m making it do double duty this season and wearing it as a top too. 😛 Can’t wait to wear this color from head (love this hat) to toe (great fringe detail on this heel) this upcoming season. Also love this bag!

2.) Saddle Up: The cross-body saddle bag is the ‘it’ bag this fall and I’m not complaining. I love the structured look of it and got it in grey so I can wear it with anything (everything).

3.) White Out: Another trend I’m really excited about is monochromatic white. I love wearing white on white during the summer so I’m really excited it’s been incorporated into fall. This is the jacket I posted on my snapchat you all asked about. I am OBSESSED! I just ordered it. And how amazing is this coat? White jackets just kill me. They are so beautiful!

What are some of your favorite styles that are going strong this fall?

The Advice I Wish I Had In My 20s

short hair hello fashionjumpsuit-hello-fashion-blogred jumpsuitback of jumpsuit hello fashionhello fashion jumpsuitDETAILS: RED JUMPSUIT || NUDE HEELED SANDALS || CLUTCH (SIMILAR HERE) || SUNGLASSES

Hindsight is 20/20. We’ve all made mistakes but we live and learn – and hopefully share! As I’m gearing up to hit the big 3-0, I wanted to share some of the things I’ve learned over the last few years.

It doesn’t matter what you major in. Hard work and ambition can get you the world. Without that work ethic, a degree in any field is just something on your resume. Hard work and dedication to your passions is really what gets you places.

Take care of your skin! A tan lasts for moments but your skin is with you forever. Use SPF especially on your face and opt for healthier options like sunless tanning (I love this sunless face lotion I have been using for years). Also start your skin care regimen in your early 20’s before you have wrinkles. I wish I would have started earlier. This is a great day serum for wrinkles.

Hair ages too. Between being on a budget with your hair styling tools and experimenting with hair colors, your hair will go through the ringer in your 20’s. Start taking care of your hair now. One of the easiest and more important ways is with a heat protectant. I love the Nexxus New York Salon Care Heat Protecting Mist enriched with flax seed oil and antioxidants to protect your hair from heat damage like dryness and breakage. The Nexxus New York Salon Care Encapsulate Serum is another one of my favorite products for repairing my hair with pure elastin protein and other nutrients. I use this daily to restore my hair fiber back to its pre-damaged state.

Less is more. Whether it’s makeup, perfume, or accessories, less is always more. Obviously we have the days it’s fun to get glammed up but overall simplify. I remember I used to pile on bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc., but I feel like the older I get one statement piece or a couple delicate pieces do the trick.

Family is everything. When you are young you think you would rather hang out with friends, but as you grow up you realize family are the people who usually always stay by your side. Start young and don’t miss out on those opportunities. Spend time with your grandparents! One of my favorite memories with my grandma was a few years ago I went to visit her and she went through all her old photo albums and told me about her childhood and growing up. Learned so much! Even just taking the time to call them makes their day!

Floss. Your dentist knows what’s up.

Set goals! Ambition without goals doesn’t get you anywhere so set both short and long term goals for yourself. And don’t forget to include a timeline to hold yourself accountable.

Try new things.  Wether its a trend you are nervous to try and think you can’t pull off or an adventure you think is extreme don’t let your second guessing hold you back, be adventurous and try new things.

Choose your friends wisely. One of my favorite quotes is “You will only be as good as the people you surround yourself with.” Surround yourself with good people who reciprocate your friendship. Nobody likes a one-sided friendship.

Keep a journal. It took me until I had kids to realize how important writing in a journal is. There are so many details that will fade over time so just take a moment now to jot them down and you will get to keep them forever. Even if it’s just once a month, start writing down your favorite moments.

Start saving! You’ll never remember half of your purchases or those meals you splurge on, so start saving now to be able to one day afford those pieces that you will remember. I gave up a lot of my budget buys to invest in quality pieces and it has transformed by wardrobe. I will still never forget the feeling of buying my first designer purse or Louboutins!

Be good to others. Whether you can give through time or money, just give to others. None of us can make it alone, so lift others wherever you stand. Always make it a priority to give back!

As a mom and/or a career woman, time to relax and set aside time for ourselves can be hard to come by. As life gets more complicated, it seems like even putting together a girls’ night can two weeks of planning and coordinating everyone’s schedules in advance. So whether we’re having a movie night, shopping, or indulging our sweet tooth with some fondue and wine, it’s always worth it.

This Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay was the perfect addition to our girls’ night in. It’s a rich, full-bodied wine and the flavor had a beautiful finish. A glass of wine always turns an ordinary night into a special occasion. Plus it was a great chance to unwined (haha like my pun 😉 with some friends.

Any reason to celebrate with a toast is a good one in my book so I love Chateau Ste. Michelle’s #AToastTo competition. Share your own toast to some of your favorite things all summer long on Twitter and Instagram with hashtags @AToastTo and #ToastContest. This week’s theme is a toast to dessert for a chance to win a basket full of sweets or a trip to Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Summer Concert Series in Washington.

So here’s to dessert! Cheers to a girls’ night in, laughing all night, and enjoying a sweet bite. You can see my other toast with Chateau Ste. Michelle here.

MARA: WHITE CROCHET DRESS || GOLD BALLET FLATS

WES: NIKE TEE || GREY JOGGERS || NIKE SLIDES

I got these jeans and jacket a couple weeks ago and I have worn them so much! The jeans are so distressed I love them! And olive green is one of my favorite colors for fall so I loved the boyish feel of this cargo jacket (on sale).

I always looked forward to back to school shopping as a kid. It was the highlight of my summer (backwards, I know!). Now that I’m an adult the fun part is feeding off the kid’s excitement so I always try to make it as fun for them as it was for me once upon a time. The key is to let them have some say in the matter. It’s fun watching Mara and Wes explore their own taste, from sweats to dresses.

Since Nike is one of the kids’ favorite brands (and ours too 🙂 we always end up with a few Nike pieces in our back to school clothes haul.  Macy’s is our go-to spot for Nike gear for the kids since they always have great deals.

I love Nike sets for Wes – they are priced like a single piece but he gets double the wear out of each piece by wearing them as separates. And don’t let Mara’s lace dress fool you. 😛 Mara can hold her own with the guys and loves Nike as much as her brother does. Mara and Wes each have a pair of Nike slides and wear them constantly. Mara loves the pink detailing on her pair (on sale).

The kids love going to the library! We picked out their back packs (boys version) for school a couple weeks ago (obsessed with these they are on sale- under $25, and have option for personalization on them so the kids got to pick out how they wanted their name written and what animal or shape they wanted on it) and when they came in the mail they were beyond anxious to use them! Since school doesn’t start for a few more days we decided to make it a library day so they could use their backpacks for library books. In full honesty I swear I get a late fee every time we go to the library because I always forget to return them! Grrrr but I love seeing how excited the kids get to pick out new books. Mara started reading mini chapter books so she is always picking big books she can read to her brothers. B on the other hand was a hot mess in the library! He didn’t get the whole “quiet” part. He’s really into chase and hide and seek right now so he thought the endless aisles of books made the best maze! He would run down the aisles laughing and screaming as I would frantically chase him trying to get him to be quiet. Some days he is the most well behaved and other days no matter how many times I tell him no or try to discipline he just doesn’t listen.

Besides the back packs we got a few more things at Lands’ End for back to school. The kids shoes we picked out are so cute! Wes got these sneakers. They are white which typically is rough with boys but they are leather so I know they won’t get dirty as fast, they look so cute with shorts too! (Don’t forget to spray your shoes with a protectant it makes a huge difference on how dirty they get) Mara got these burgundy booties and I was wishing they had them in my size 😉 They look so cute on her and burgundy actually mixes and matches with a lot of things so don’t be afraid to step outside your neutral color wheel with these. They are super versatile!

I couldn’t help myself and picked out a couple things for myself too. These burgundy sneakers are the ones I wore on snapchat you all were asking about. I love the color! (can you tell pretty much all the kids have a shade of it on 🙂 I also got this cable knit sweater. Chunky knit sweaters are the best for fall!

I’ll be hosting an event with Neiman Marcus this weekend in Denver at the Cherry Creek Mall from 1-4pm! I would love to hang out and shop with you guys! Hope you can make it!

Cody and I didn’t get a real date night (like alone just us) until about a year after B was been born. Now that we found a good babysitter we try to make it a weekly or every other week event. Sometimes time slips away but it’s really something I look forward to with him!
We have our usual date nights like dinner, or a movie and then we have a list of extreme date nights for special occasions. A private helicopter ride had been on our list so we got dressed up, enjoyed a bottle of my favorite wine, and made it a night! A crazy storm rolled in like an hour before and I thought we were for sure going to have to cancel but it actually worked in our favor. We delayed taking off until it passed, leaving a beautiful sunset! We flew over the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Mountain, and finished over downtown Salt Lake by the Capital and Temple Square. It was by far one of the funnest things we’ve done!
When we decided we wanted to do a helicopter ride I immediately knew I wanted to bring a bottle of riesling, one of my personal favorites, to toast the occasion and knew it would be a perfect excuse for a toast for the Chateau Ste. Michelle’s #AToastTo competition. So here’s a toast to adventure, love, and cheers from above.
This week’s theme is a toast to wine (too easy!) so make your toast to wine with their cute toast generator and share it on Twitter and Instagram using hashtags #ToastContest and #AToastTo for a chance to win a couple prizes including a trip to Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Summer Concert Series.

5-Minute Fall Hair Styles

short hair loose curls

DETAILS: CURLING IRON ||  GREY TURTLENECK TANK (LOVE THIS ONE | DRESS VERSION HERE) || DISTRESSED DENIM || GOLD WATCH || NUDE FLATS ||  BOBBY-PINS || CLEAR ELASTIC HAIRBANDS ||  KNIT HEADBAND

Does anyone else’s hair come in last priority when you are in a rush to get ready? I’ve perfected this 5 minute messy curl for my on the go looks. It’s accented with an extreme side part to create volume to the look.   A deep part is all over the runways, from pony-tails to loose locks.  Play up the volume with some messy curls for a bombshell effect.

  1. Start with your hair parted normally (mine is a little to the side normally) or down the middle.quick hair style how to
  1. Open the clip of the curling iron and wrap your hair one to two times around the barrel of the curling iron.  Do not curl all the way to the end! I leave at least two inches uncurled at the end. When your curling use big sections of hair. The bigger the section of hair the looser the curl will be the smaller the section of hair the tighter the curl will be. I only do two maybe three sections on one side of my head. Leave a few sections underneath (closest to your ear) straight so it doesn’t look so put together. I love this Hot Shot Tools Pink Titanium curling iron. I got it at Sally Beauty a couple years ago and it’s still my favorite.
    loose curl
  1. Tilt your curling iron at a 45° angle to your body over your shoulder. A time crunch is your friend here – the quicker the curl the better. You’re going after more of a 3rd-4th day curl so you don’t want to hold the curl for very long.
  2. Use a comb to create an extreme side part. Curl that section of hair by briefly wrapping it around the curling iron and slide it down quickly instead of holding it in place. You want the top curl on each side to be for a loose, messy wave.part hairhello fashion blog hair tutorial
  1. Last step! Powder the heck out of your hair. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. I literally dump my powder all over my hair. After you apply, run your fingers through your hair (pretend you are creating static with a balloon) and scrunch until you have the desired volume.how to get volume
  2. And voila you have that “I woke up like this” look in under 5 minutes. A lot of times my part does it’s own thing by the end of hair style but I think it adds to the messy look 🙂

fast loose curl hair tutorial hello fashion

A really easy alternative to this look if you want a little more edge is to slick back you hair on the side with less volume and pull it back with a bobby-pin. I love the MetaGrip Premium bobby-pins cause they are a lot longer than the pins you would find at your standard stores.

fall hair styles 2015

And for the days when no matter what you do your hair just won’t cooperate, you can’t go wrong with a twisted ballerina bun. Secure your fly-aways with a headbands like the DCNL headwraps. Headbands are actually really on-trend this season so it gives a polished look to a messy hairstyle. I always stock up on my DCNL Gummi clear elastics at Sally Beauty where you can get a bag of 300 for a few bucks.

Pampering

DETAILS: MAMI TEE  || ARM CHAIR || END TABLE (LOVE THIS ONE)

PRODUCTS: NEXXUS NEW YORK SALONE CARE REPLENISHING MASQUE || NEXXUS NEW YORK SALONE CARE RECONSTRUCTING TREATMENT || FACIAL MASK

Whenever I have a couple hours to myself when Cody takes the kids out for a couple hours, I jump at the chance for a little extra pampering. There are so many things that get shuffled to the end of the day, and then pushed to the next day and so on. So I wanted to share a few of my favorite pampering things for my “me time”.

1.) I usually start with a hot bath/shower to relax. In full honesty it’s usually the time I actually get to shave my legs. I never thought that would be a luxury! 🙂

hair masque

2.) I have put my hair through hell taking it from dark to blonde but it’s nothing a great hair masque can’t fix. This Nexxus New York Salon Care Replenishing Masque adds a lot of moisture to my hair with concentrated 100% Elastin Protein and I never mind the waiting time to let it sit – it’s the perfect time to catch up on my fashion magazines. I also love the Nexxus New York Salon Care Emergencee Reconstructing treatment. You do it once a week for 4 weeks to help restore split ends, breakage and reinforce hair fiber from within.

nexxus hair

3.) I’ve mentioned it before, but with my latin roots comes dark hair and the inevitable lady-stache! So a few extra minutes to wax my upper lip are much appreciated. I usually pick up a cheap at-home wax kit from Sally’s or Target.

4.) No pampering session would be complete without a face mask. This one is my all-time favorite. Biore pore strips are another great option,. Love getting the pores clean!

5.) I love teeth whitening strips but it seems like there is never a convenient time to actually use them during the day so a couple hours to myself is primetime.

6.) I used to do DIY manicures all the time but then my ADD would kick in and I always ended up messing up one (or more!) nails before they dried so now I typically get manicures at the salon. My toes always fare a little better though so sometimes I’ll add an at-home pedi to the mix.

Picture overload today! 🙂 I wanted to share the rest of our pics from our trip to Laguna a couple weeks ago. We stayed at the Montage, it is the best place to stay in Laguna area. They have a really pretty walking trail along the cliff that overlooks the ocean with beautiful landscaping and baby bunnies! Yes there are baby bunnies! B would chase them around with a high pitched squeal hoping to catch his furry little friend. We didn’t really leave the resort area the whole time we were there. Lots of room service and pool side dining. There waffle breakfast is amazing you have to try it when you stay there. They are mini waffles loaded with whip cream and strawberries! One of the nights we finally ventured out and walked across the street to this yummy little taco spot called, La Sirena Grill. I wish I had more places to suggest but we were pretty lazy while we were there. The beach is really easy to get to, maybe a 3 minute walk and they provide free umbrellas and chairs if your staying at the resort so it’s nice not having to haul a bunch of stuff to the beach. I say it every time, but man I would love to live next to the beach! So peaceful!

You can see more pics from our beach weekend here if you missed it.
