The 3 Shoe Essentials For Your Next Getaway

Happy Saturday from St. Lucia! I know I don’t typically post on Saturdays but I always get a lot of emails asking for suggestions about what to pack for different destinations and going to back to back destinations with one suitcase 😛 I thought it was the perfect time to share! It definitely varies by location but I wanted to share my packing strategy when it comes to shoes. You guys know I’m a huge sucker for shoes but they can take up a lot of precious luggage space and they are one of the easiest pieces to work into multiple looks. I’m partnering with DSW to share my 3 shoe essentials for your next getaway!

SOMETHING COMFORTABLE: Nothing beats a sneaker when it comes to travel style, but you also want a shoe that will work just as well for your final destination. I always end up underestimating how much walking I’ll do on vacay, so it’s good to have a shoe that’s both cute and comfortable just in case. I love these white espadrilles! They are perfect with jeans for and airport look and work great with cut-off shorts and pretty much anything and the jute accent adds that cool tropical feeling.

These sandals though! They are under $50!

SOMETHING THAT MAKES A STATEMENT: I love lace-up sandals for any trip! You can wear them with almost anything you packed: a flowy maxi, cut-off shorts, or with just a swimsuit. They add a pop to even the most basic outfits. I’m in love with this pair. The embellishments make them even more of a statement shoe that will spice up your travel style and they are under $50. Go a half-size smaller – they run a little big. 🙂

SOMETHING FOR A NIGHT OUT: I might be tempted to pack a few ‘just in case’ heels, but I rarely dress up on beach trips so I just pack one versatile heel that can work with multiple outfits. I’m obsessed with all things blush so I was naturally drawn to this pretty velvet pair. The block heel makes it really comfortable and the low heel height is a must since you typically end up walking a lot on vacation.

Nightly Skincare Routine – It’s More Than Washing Your Face

I’m excited to partner with Estée Lauder and Refinery 29 to share 5 steps to my nightly skincare routine. I didn’t realize how important taking care of your skin was until I really hit my mid to late 20s. Embarrassingly, I wouldn’t even wash my face every night before I went to bed. Sometimes I would use a toner to clean off my face but it wasn’t like a true clean and I definitely wasn’t hydrating enough. Once I hit my late 20s and noticed wrinkles 😢 I started researching more and realized there is so much I hadn’t been doing. Even now I feel like I’m still learning so much and constantly researching to see how to take care of my skin best. A lot of you have asked about the steps to taking care of your skin. If you’re a young reader, start now! Take care of your skin before you even see issues and you’re healthy glow will last a lot longer. If you’re already starting to see changes in your skin and you want to know how to make it better, it’s not too late! Start now. 🙂

1. Wash. Use a cleanser specifically designed for facial cleansing. Body washes are a lot harsher on your skin and will strip away your natural oils; using hand soap can dry your skin out and leave it dull. This one has a really light, foamy texture and your skin feels really soft and fresh after you rinse it off. Massage the soap in circular motions around your face. You can use your hands to rinse it off, but it’s better to use a washcloth to help exfoliate and really get all the makeup off. I’ve noticed when I just use my fingertips I still have excess makeup leftover. If you don’t like washcloths you can use an exfoliating facial brush. Whatever you use, use small circular motions to get a great clean without being too rough on your skin.

2. Night Repair Serum. After you cleanse, apply a night serum. Your body always does it’s best work while you are asleep, even when it comes to the skin. You want to use your best skincare products at night to get the most benefit from them. I love this one by Estée Lauder – it instantly leaves my skin feeling so smooth and hydrated.

3. Eye Attention. The skin around your eyes is a lot thinner and more fragile so it starts to show signs of aging sooner than the rest of the face. Between late nights working on the blog or early mornings with the kids, I’m always searching for good eye creams. This one has a really silky gel consistency and I love how bright it leaves the skin around the eyes. Tap the serum gently with your ring finger and let it soak in around the eyes – don’t rub! You want to be extra gentle with the skin around your eyes.

4. Anti-aging Product. Everyone knows the importance of an anti-aging cream so it’s really just a matter of finding one that you like. I’m obsessed with plant stem cell extract in my skincare products. This one leaves your skin really bright and radiant. Don’t just use it at night – it’s a great morning pick me up to give you an instant glow.

5. Moisturize. After you have washed, applied your serum and creams, seal it in with a hydrating moisturizer. You want to apply your skincare products from thinnest consistency to thickest, which will seal in the rest of the serums and moisturizers you apply prior.

BONUS: Face Masks. For some extra TLC, I love a good face and sheet mask. You would apply the face mask after you wash your face and before you apply your serums and creams. I do one once or twice a week, especially after traveling. This one has a double dose of hyaluronic acid which really helps seal moisture into your skin to keep it soft and plump.

Cody and I grew up playing sports and the kids are all in sports, so we’ve always been a really active family. Cody and I do different workouts at home when we don’t make it to the gym and Beckam has started trying to imitate some of the exercises. He’s mostly picked up on lunges and push-ups and always says,”Look at my push-ups like dad!” or “Look at my legs, mom!” It’s seriously the funniest thing!

Nike and Adidas have become our family’s favorites. For the kids, it starts with Wes – all he wants to wear is his baggy athletic shorts and tees. Beckam, in true little brother form, just wants to copy everything that Wes wears. Mara is so cute and wants to coordinate with B so it comes full circle and everybody usually ends up in some kind of sportswear look.

How cute is she?!! Obsessed with her pastel outfit (ON SALE)!

B never wants to take his cleats off! When he opened them he was so excited and put them on immediately and started running up and down the stairs showing off how fast he was in them. 🙂 It’s like in his head he is playing the part of a soccer player but once he got on the field at his last game he refused to play but he still considers himself a full time soccer player off the field, haha. We also got him this outfit and this one and I melt every time he wears them! So cute!

I love the bright and colorful kids selection they have at Kohl’s, especially their pastels (also got these for Mara in mint). They have so many cute athletic pieces for the kids and you can always find a good sale or deal! Athletic pieces always hold up well so I don’t have to worry about the kids being rough on clothes. Love love this shirt on B. The bright lettering really pops – it’s one of his favorited shirts.

I got these black shorts and loved them so much I ordered them in olive and pink, too. A lot of my Nike shorts flare out on the side, so I love that this pair doesn’t. I also ordered these white sneakers while they were running a 15% off sale. Honestly it was one of those pieces that you buy because they are on sale even though you don’t know if you really need them, but in person they are SOOOO CUTE. They make any workout look really pop with the crisp white. I’m obsessed – they’ve been on repeat!!

3 Things I Didn’t Expect Becoming A Mom

Mom life is the best life!

Happy Monday guys!! We are in the Bahamas with the ILY team right now having a fun work getaway with the crew. So fun having time with everyone outside of work! Mother’s Day is coming up quick!! I’ll be sharing different Mother’s Day posts through out the next couple weeks. Today’s is the three things I didn’t expect becoming a mom!

I never thought that the cliche Spiderman pajamas and Paw Patrol underwear would become my kids favorite clothes. lol. I always thought they were the cheesiest thing in the world and now it’s over half of B’s pj and underwear collection. He loves to roam our house in just his Hulk undies and show his “muscles” like dad.
“That will never be me.” Before I had kids I remember seeing kids melt down in stores all the time. Not in a rude, judging way but I would think, when I’m a mom my kids will never melt down like that. Fast forward 10 years and I don’t think I can count the number of times they’ve melted down at a restaurant or store because they’re tired, didn’t get the treat they wanted, or for no reason decide to just act crazy!!! When I see moms in the store going through the same thing, now it’s the head nod and tap on the back saying, “One of those days, huh? We’ve all been there!” to remind her she’s not alone and kids will be kids!
More emotional! I’m not sure if that’s possible because, full honesty, I’m a crier! haha. I love sappy movies, cute elderly couples holding hands make me tear up – I’m a such a sap! But having kids has made me ten times more emotional! Looking back through old pics always makes me tear up, finding clothes that are too small in shock realizing he’s ten times bigger than when he was a baby, or videos from only a couple months earlier realizing how fast they change before your eyes! It’s turned me into a hot mess sometimes. But I love this feeling of love and emotion it brings!! Truly nothing better: Mom life is the best life!!

Lessons I’ve Learned From Being A Mom

Mother’s Day comes with a lot of meaning in our home – it’s actually always had a lot of meaning to me personally. As a child in a blended family, I had the joy of having two amazing women play mom roles in my life and now I’m experiencing it from the other side within our own little blended family. It’s funny – before I had kids, I always thought being a mom would be one of the easiest things. (I guess that’s a tribute to my own mom and step-mom for making it look so easy 🙂 but it’s taught me some of my hardest life lessons and also brought me some of the greatest joy that I didn’t even know was possible to experience. I’m so grateful for 3 kids that mean so much to me. And even though for two of them I’m only their stepmom, I hope they know what an impact they’ve had on my life and how special they are to me.

It always surprises me how each kid has such a different personality. They have to be parented so differently, they have different love languages, and they are all just so unique in their own way. As moms we continually feel like it’s our job to teach our kids, but today I wanted to share a few things that they have taught me.

Got Mara and myself these little lockets that each hold a picture of our family. They are so special and I hope she keeps it to give to her daughter one day. Also got one for my Moms as a gift from the kids for Mother’s Day. 🙂

MARA:

The oldest child and the biggest nurturer. I didn’t have siblings growing up, but I can’t imagine a better sister. Mara is super loyal, artistic, and giving. Super shy unless you know her well. She loves to take care of her brothers and play Mom. She’s taught me patience. Honestly she’s more patient than me a lot of times, especially with Beckam. No matter what he asks or wants she is there to make sure he is okay. Mara’s laugh is so contagious and she will make such an amazing mom one day!!

His little toothless smile kills me 🙂

WES:

Wes is always mistaken as the oldest. 🙂 He values quality time and doing things to together. He is the sensitive one in the family, but not in a whiny way, he just senses people’s feelings and hates conflict. He always knows if someone is upset and will be the first to give you a hug or try to include you if you’re feeling down. Whenever the siblings fight he is the first to apologize and say sorry. He’s taught me to let things go easier when Cody and I are in a stupid fight and I love what a cuddler he is! He has such a big heart!

BECKAM:

Partially it is the age, but the way he looks at life is so beautiful. Everything is the most exciting thing in the world to him, rolling down a hill of grass, blowing bubbles, seeing a cool bird in the sky, everything is an adventure. He is also the trouble maker in the family. Full of mischief but the life of the party. His excitement about life makes my day. He’s taught me to appreciate the little things, and to love in a way I didn’t know possible.

I know on Mother’s Day we are always thinking about our moms and, if we have kids of our own, celebrating having them in our life! I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the 3 people who have given me the best gift of being a mom and say thank you to my own moms who have given me such a good example of what that means.

It’s seriously SO SOFT and super comfortable – I’m obsessed!). Wear it with a deep V or scooped top paired with joggers and your favorite sneakers and you’re ready for a casual errand day or the gym.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great Easter weekend! My parents were in town and then we did a big Easter egg hunt with Cody’s family so we loved getting to hang out with so much family. With all the festivities we had lots of family lunch/dinners which we always look forward to cause Cody and I are rarely cook lol. The best part of any meal is the BREAD! Am I right? My step mom and sister in law both made the best homemade rolls. I was loading up!!

We added this top (under $100) to ILY and I’ve been wanting to share all the details! I love the subtle floral detail and I’m obsessed with the peek-a-boo back cut-out! It’s such a pretty accent without being too overwhelming. The unexpected back detail is a great way to make a button up feel a little more flirty and fun for spring. Just as every wardrobe should have plenty of staples, it should have it’s fair share of statements! 🙂

Costa Rica Date Night

In case you missed it on social – we were in Costa Rica last week with the family and part of Cody’s family. The first couple days of vacation it’s really hard for me to shut off work and stop checking emails so Cody and I set aside a night to make us both slow down a little bit. We loved the view where we were staying so we decided to take advantage of the property and spend the night in for a date night.

Seriously the yummiest smelling shampoo and conditioner!!

One of my favorite parts of the house was the outdoor shower. It was around 100· the whole time so we couldn’t stand being away from the water too long. Every night we would come back from the beach, shower outside, and watch the sunset. The views were like nothing else I had ever seen before! I left this Garnier Whole Blends shampoo and conditioner at the outside shower and by the end of the trip I had converted everyone on the trip. We were all so obsessed with the coconut smell and couldn’t get enough of it! I’m a huge scent person and I know it sounds silly but having that coconut scent on our trip really made it feel that much more beachy. Even after you blow dry your hair you can still smell the coconut. With back-to-back beach days and dipping in the pool, my hair was really dry from all the chlorine and salt water. It was also humid so my baby hairs would frizz like crazy! The coconut oil and cocoa butter really helped tame by crazies. The coconut smell set the tone for a relaxing date night with Cody and this smoothing oil was also a lifesaver when I attempted to get ready.

The date itself was such a memorable one! We had a chef come make dinner and everything was so good. The stuffed avocado was amazing! I’ve had a hard time with seafood ever since I was pregnant with Beckam, but for the first time since before B was born I actually enjoyed the shrimp – it was prepared so well! The coconut ice cream was so pretty I almost didn’t want to eat it. After dinner we got massages on the back patio looking out over the ocean and it was probably the most relaxing massage I’ve ever had. The house’s music system was set up to play outside so we had peaceful massage music echoing outside with the scenery looking our over the water – I can’t even describe it but it was the most relaxing massage and it really helped set the mood for the rest of the trip!

5 Spring Finds Under $50

Obsessed with the tie detail on this top! (on sale under $25!)

I’m obsessed with this off-the-shoulder top! The tie sleeves, banker stripes, and button down detail are such a good combination and this one is a steal under $50. It’s the prettiest sleeve that you’ll want to show off with every outfit. This denim jumper, bomber, and crossbody are all under $50 too.

This floral maxi dress is the 5th find under $50. I love the front bandeau detail and the back cut-out. Little details always make the biggest different and make pieces feel unique. Love this one for a beach getaway or over a pair of denim for an editorial vibe.

I love the look of layering dresses over jeans! It’s a great transitional combo from spring to summer as you start pulling out your sun dresses and mix them in with your wardrobe. For me it’s all about the season leading up to Easter Sunday – getting excited for spring, the cherry blossoms, the sunshine – it all reminds me of Easter! One of the joys of being a mom is being able to have someone to twin with (at least until they are old enough to protest ;). 3 Ways to Wear This Season’s It Shoe Trend

I’m always incorporating athleisure pieces into my looks – once you go sport chic you can never go back! Haha but seriously once you get used to being comfortable with out sacrificing style, you’ll always be reaching for your coziest sweater or more comfortable pair of shoes. It’s a must for any wardrobe and pulling it off is all about striking the right balance of classic and comfort. With that being said, I wanted to share 3 easy ways to incorporate the sport chic shoe trend into your looks this spring with Marc Fisher LTD!

Bombers and boyfriend jeans – they are easy add-ons to any basic outfit for a sporty look. To keep it from reading too basic, swap the obvious sneaker for a sporty platform sandal. This pair is so comfortable and I love the white contrast platform. It’s always a huge accomplishment when I can find shoes that have a little height to them but that are still comfortable to wear – this one works just as great with a casual outfit or with a spring day dress.

I love when I can find a cute sporty sandal to pair with dresses. It’s the perfect middle ground between a classic pump and a sneaker. When I’m in a hurry, I never have time to lace-up my gladiator sandals so I love this alternative for a crisp, fresh spring look.
