I love all the cliché seasonal activities, from sledding and sipping hot cocoa to decorating gingerbread houses and picking out a Christmas tree. Whether inside by a cozy fire or outside in freezing temperatures, I think festive traditions should all have one thing in common: staying warm! Bundling up in warm layers is probably the easiest and chicest way to stay warm during the fun (but freezing!) outdoor festivities. I always feel like I am peeling off layers like an onion when I get home.

This season’s on-trend holiday styles are ideal for layering. A cable knit sweater is a perfect way to both keep warm and break up a monotonous outfit by layering it between a basic blouse and outerwear pieces. I have been gravitating towards oversized outerwear, like this burgundy coat, which lets you add layers underneath without looking like you are bursting at the seams. Men need to stay warm too, although they would never admit to you that they are cold. Cardigans can be paired with anything – from dress shirts and slacks to jeans and tees – and are a great way to add extra warmth to an outfit. Henley’s (this one under $20) under button-ups, vests, jackets, etc. is another great and practical layered look.

When you are picking out gifts for a best friend or significant other, consider pieces that are easy to layer and will keep them warm during those upcoming outdoor winter activities. Below are a few of my favorite pieces for layering on sale that would make great gifts. I just got Cody this tie (under $20) to layer for a Holiday event we have coming up, and this layered sheer trim top under $35 for myself.

  1. Noticed the henley your husband is wearing has a hood, but the one on the link does not. Could you point me towards the right link? Thanks!

  2. Where is this tree farm?! I’m in Utah and I’ve been looking ALL over for a tree farm with little success! Love this post!
