As the new year begins I think we all begin to get excited for Spring and a new wardrobe. As much as I would like to believe the second Christmas is over the warm weather is on it’s way, the temperature says otherwise. Putting together a street chic look that will keep you warm in the frigid weather can sometimes be challenging. Instead of reverting to those cozy pieces (I think we could all live in soft hoodies and sweatpants!), keep in mind a few tricks for bringing out those Spring dresses in ways that make them unique and inspiring.

1. Dressy meets casual: Some of the most interesting looks are the ones that merge dressy and relaxed pieces into a effortless ensemble. I balanced out today’s dress with an edgy leather moto jacket (similar under $150 here), backpack, and a beanie. Step outside the typical pairing when opting for a dress.

2. Minimal is max (mostly): Understated looks can be some of the most alluring. Plus, minimalism is key to making budget outfits look more expensive. Think structured pieces or monochromatic tones. Don’t feel like you should skip that statement piece, though – an over-the-knee boot adds an extra bit of interest to today’s look.

3. Layer: Pulling a few accessories from your closet into your look gives you a variety of alternatives for chic (and warm!) street style. Hats, tights, scarves, etc. can transform a look when paired creatively with an ensemble. Layering pieces are always a great way to introduce detail or interest in an outfit.

4. Add Texture: You have probably heard this one a thousand times, but mixing textures is easiest during the winter. You have countless opportunities to incorporate different textures with your layers. From head to toe today’s look combined suede, leather, cable knit and more in just a few basic pieces.

What are some of your go-to’s for wearing a dress in the winter?

Christine

  1. I would never in a million years have come up with this combo but it is flawless. Love the way you styled the dress.

  2. This is such a nice look! I’m not sure why but I’ve always had this thing against wearing stockings with a dress so I’ve always strictly left my dresses for warmer weather but I think I’m going to break my rule after seeing this post. Thank you!
