6 Tips for Making the Most of Your Anti-Aging Products

Guys, I have to admit I grew up in total denial of ever getting wrinkles. I think everyone does a little bit – we all think it won’t happen for a long long time and then suddenly you wake up one day like what the heck is that crease under my eye, or when did that wrinkle come on my forehead!

I’ve become a lot more serious about my anti-aging routine the last couple year and wanted to share some tips I’ve learned for making the most of your anti-aging products.

1: Invest & follow through.

prevageWe all have those moments of wisdom when we invest in a great anti-aging product but fail to stick with it. Leave your product somewhere you will see it every morning and night as a reminder. I have been using Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE® Anti-Aging Daily Serum and love the results. The PREVAGE® product line focuses on protecting the skin against environmental factors, like the sun and pollution, using a powerful antioxidant called Idebenone. I’ve noticed my skin is already a lot firmer and brighter since I started using it plus it evens out skin tones so I’m feeling a little liberated from my foundation/concealer. 😉  I usually wear it at night and add a drop to my foundation in the morning.

2: Start early!

There’s a reason everyone and their mother has been telling you to stop wrinkling your forehead or to wear a hat to protect your skin from the sun – they’ve already had to learn the hard way. Don’t wait until you already have fine lines and wrinkles to start taking precaution – prevention will give you a priceless head-start.

3: Prepare.

Before using an anti-aging serum, wash your face and lightly pat it dry with a towel so your skin is still damp when you apply it. If you have sensitive skin, dry your face fully and then wait a few minutes before you apply the product.

4: Application is everything.applying skin care

The best skin products are the ones where are little goes a long way. Start with a bead-sized amount on your finger tip – it will be plenty. Then gently apply in circular motions with your ring finger for a lighter touch. Harshly applying a skin repair serum is the equivalent of an oxymoron 🙂

5: Don’t neglect your neck.

Think of your face and your neck as a package deal – they are both exposed to the same environment and never leave each others’ side so treat them equally and always apply anti-aging product to both your neck and your face.

6: Sleep on it.skincare-hello-fashion

Considering you are asleep for a third of your life, make sure your sleeping habits are working to your skin’s advantage instead of against it. Avoid those inevitable sleep lines altogether by sleeping on your back (if you can) or minimize the effect by using silk pillowcases that are more gentle on your skin.

My 4 Fall Staples

Neiman-Marcus-Burgundy
DETAILS: 1. SUNGLASSES || 2. LACE CUTOUT SKIRT || 3. PEEP-TOE BOOTIE || 4. KNIT SWEATER || 5. HAT || 6. LEATHER JACKET || 7. LEATHER BACKPACK || 8. LEATHER MIDI SKIRT || 9. PONCHO || 10. DRESS || 11. LIPSTICK (SHADE: VERY PRIVE) || 12. NAIL POLISH (SHADE: SINGLE LADIES) || 13. SUEDE HEELS

Need I say more? Seriously color crushing on all things red for fall. Not only is burgundy a color you’ll want in your closet to mix and match, it is beyond chic when you wear it head to toe. Above are some of my favorite burgundy pieces from low to high budgets to mix into your wardrobe.

1.) Peep-toe booties: I know I’m not the only one already itching to pull out boots for fall but since we’re still getting a few warm days for now, peep-toe booties are a compromise I’m more than happy with. It’s the perfect piece to transition from summer to fall.

2.) Leather midi skirts: I love the feminine silhouette of a midi skirt, especially in leather. With an oversized chunky knit, it’s the perfect fall combo.

3.)  Capes/Ponchos: I love the classic, statement ponchos and capes that are coming back in full force this fall. I know I won’t want to cover these gorgeous layers up so I plan on getting my fill before the freezing temperatures hit and I’m force to pull out the parkas.

4.) Felt fedoras: If you ask me, I think you can make a felt fedora work year-round, but regardless, they are like pumpkin spice lattes – it’s not fall without them!

If you haven’t been following along on snapchat or Instagram – tada I now have long hair 🙂 I get bored with my hair probably on a monthly basis but it took sooooo long to get it to blonde I am not ready to take the plunge back to dark so I decided to add some extensions and roll with long hair for a few weeks. It’s so funny everyones response on Snapchat unanimously picked long hair and the majority of Instagram comments have been in favor of short, but I love the switch so you have to do you regardless of what people say right?! 🙂  So we will see how long this phase lasts until I go back to short.

How was your labor day weekend? One of my best friends came to visit and we had girls weekend with our babies. She has the cutest baby girl who is a couple months younger than B so we took them to the park, aquarium, shopping (which turned out to be a nightmare because my cheap-o fold stroller broke and B was in melt down mode), and just hung out catching up. Then she flew home Sunday and Cody and I went up to Park City with our friends. The weather dropped to the 60’s this weekend and I was so excited to wear some of my fall sweaters. A lot of you were asking about this beige one from my Instagram and this stripe one from eating pizza with B. Both of them are amazing!

Beige and tan are one of my favorite colors because they work in any season. I have been looking for a tan bag to replace my Celine that got stolen a couple months ago and love this one because it has the crossbody strap. (TIP: Try knotting the cross body strap to add some dimension to your look 🙂 The older B gets the faster he becomes and the more free hands I need to keep him out of mischief so the cross body bags have become my best friend! I also love this version in white and black. Bags are shoes are always my weakness when it comes to shopping!

I hope you all had a great long weekend! Thanks for reading!

How to Apply False Eyelashes

how to apply false eyelashes

A lot of you have asked about my eyelashes so I wanted to do a post sharing some of my tips. During the summer I wear lash extensions. Those of you who are unfamiliar with them, they are synthetic lashes that are glued to each individual lash to create volume and thickness. They are waterproof and last about 2-3 weeks before you need to get them filled. At about week 2 you start to notice some of the falsies falling out so I will use strip lashes with my lash extensions when I have shoots or days I want a fuller look. When I don’t have my lash extensions in I consistently use lash strips. The first time I put them on (back in college) I had no idea what I was doing! It took me like 45 minutes and lots of frustration trying to get them to work. Now through mistakes I have narrowed down the process and learned how to whip these babies on in 5-10 minutes.

Step 1: Get your supplies together. You will need a pair of lashes, scissors, eyeliner, glue, and tweezers. My favorite brand of lashes is Ardell. I’ve always gotten mine at Sally Beauty and I typically use the demi wispies in black. Those are my favorite.false eyelashes hello fashion

Step 2: Do your regular make up first. Lashes are the last step in your make up routine. I typically wear my lashes with a smoky eye and winged liner. I love this natural palette I got a few weeks ago. It’s also great for beginners because it tells you where to apply each color on the shadow case (i.e. all over base, lid, highlighter, crease, etc.).applying eye shadow

Step 3: Hold the lashes up to your eye to measure the length. You don’t want them to be too long or they won’t sit on your eye right. Trim the lashes to fit your eye shape with scissors. You want to trim from the inner corner of the lashes.trim lashes

Step 4: Wrap the lashes around a shadow brush to create a natural curve in the lashes. While the lashes are resting on the brush apply eyeliner.curve eyelashes

Step 5: Apply Eyeliner. Black eyeliner is a 100% necessity for falsies. I don’t recommend brown, or any other color, use black. It helps fill in the gaps and hide the lash line where you apply the lashes.eye liner hello fashion

Step 6: Apply the glue. My favorite brand is DUO Ardell lash adhesive. It lasts the longest and has worked best for me. It comes in clear or black glue I prefer the black. Squeeze a small amount onto your hand and gently slide the lashes through the glue. DON’T APPLY THE LASHES RIGHT AWAY. I think this is the biggest mistake people make. Allow 30 seconds for the glue to get tacky before you apply. They will stick in place a thousands time better if the glue is tacky and not wet.best eye lash glue

Step 7. Set lashes on lash line. I use my hands and place them on the center of my lid. Sometimes that’s all it takes and sometimes the ends don’t stick right away so I have to use tweezers to set and hold the ends.false lashes hello Fashion

Step 8. Finishing touches. I run my eyeliner one more time over my lash line once I have applied the falsies. This just fills in any gaps I may have missed and hides any glue that may be showing. Somedays I apply mascara after – it creates a more dramatic effect but you don’t have to. It’s optional 🙂 I did a side by side (left with falsies and make up done) so you could see one eye with lashes and one with out. before and after

The last few days before school started we tried to cram in all the kids’ favorite activities to take advantage of the last few days of freedom. Feeding the ducks was one of my favorite things to do growing up so it was special to share it with the kids.

B just chases the ducks and doesn’t understand yet why they won’t hold still. He runs at them with his arms up trying to hug them like he does with Mio but he doesn’t understand why he can’t catch them. These jeans (on sale) are really soft and stretchy so they were really comfortable and didn’t slow him down at all in his crusade. 😉

I also love Jacadi’s selection of shoes for all the kids. They all zip up on the side which makes it so easy to get them on. Nothing is more annoying than trying to race out the door but having to battle it out with shoe laces. Plus it’s easier for the kids to put on and take off their shoes on their own.

I was such a tomboy when I was a kid. I always loved picking out school supplies but when it came to clothes I would fight my parents like crazy if they tried to put me in a dress. I’m so thankful Mara has a combo of both, she loves to be girly some days and sporty other. I’m so grateful she has a balanced style so I don’t have to go through the hell I put my parents through when they would try to get me in a dress. 😉 This dress was one of her favorites for back to school.

Share your back to school memories and tag @jacadi_officiel on Instagram with hashtag #BackToSchoolMemories for a chance to win a $250 shopping spree in store or online. Winners are selected every week for the next four weeks so you have multiple chances to win 🙂 More details here.
