Black and White

hello-fashion-blog-white-and-blackDETAILS: WHITE RUFFLED TOP (ON SALE – 40% OFF) || BLACK DENIM (SIMILAR BOYFRIEND STYLE HERE) || DARK PINK LIP (SHADE: ANNABELLA) || BLACK BOYFRIEND WATCH || BLACK LACE-UP FLATS (SIMILAR <$150 HERE) || SUNGLASSES || GIVENCHY HANDBAG (ON SALE)

White and black is a classic combo that works for both day or night. To take the look from casual to chic, step it up by pulling in some extra details like a chunky boyfriend watch, a bright lip (love the balance of the red and pinkish tones of this shade), and feminine lace-up flats. I have been kicking myself for missing out on this pair last round (they sell out so fast!) and just ordered a pair for myself – cannot wait to receive them! This is another similar look. I also love the ruffled hem of this cropped blouse which sets it apart from a basic t-shirt.

There are still a lot of great sales on designer bags. I listed a few more of my favorites below, and if you missed last week’s post you can see the two I got on sale this month. Obsessed with both of them! There are still a couple colors left in the Chloe bag see them here.

We were laughing so hard when we shot this because I set him by the wall and he put his hands against it and just started posing. Smiles, silly faces, the works. He cracks me up.

flip flops off

anddddd they are off! He loves taking his shoes off which is why he is barefoot 95% of the time, but he’s a boy and I love when he just trucks through the mud and dirt and gets dirty. Sometimes there are places he needs shoes though so I love these flip flops because they are under $5, easy to get on, and they come in a bunch of different colors.

It’s Monday! I love Monday’s I get really excited for the start of each week. It’s kind of weird!

B’s personality is coming out more and more each day. Just when I think I can’t love him more he does something silly and quirky and I just want to squeeze him.  He’s starting to learn more and more words, before this week it had just been the basics: Mama, Dada, Mara (he loves his sister it’s so cute he’s started yelling for her when we go to pick her up), baba (which usually stands for blanket and bottle), ball (he’s obsessed with balls), and up. He doesn’t say them like everyday some day’s he talks more than others, but this week he said the word: SHOE! Now coming from a girl who is obsessed with shoes – I don’t think he could have picked a better word 😉 hah jk but really I think it stems from the fact he loves taking his shoes off and on and throwing them. We have this balcony off our bedroom and anytime I get him ready for the day I swear he pulls one of his shoes off, runs over and throws it off the balcony. I always find a collection of things on our bottom deck like tv remotes, shoes, my make up, literally anything he can find he hucks off the deck. It’s like a daily surprise to see what I find below. It’s pretty cute though when we are out places he will take one of his shoes off then come over and sit at my feet and say “shoe” and hold it up. So I’ll put it on and then two seconds later it’s off again and he does the same thing: sits at my feet and says “shoe”. I’ll be honest after about the third or fourth time I give up and just hide them in my purse 🙂

Old Navy is running 30% off all women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories today and tomorrow (FYI its online only). I’m in love with these lace up sandals I got on sale. Cody and I are the type to wait til the last minute to do, well, just about anything. 😉 The same is true with vacations. We know we want to get out of town for a weekend, we just don’t know which weekend or where exactly. So it usually ends up like a day or two before we leave we find a last minute deal to go somewhere fun. Needless to say there have been a few bumps in pulling off quick vacations at the last minute, but we’ve learned a few tricks along the way.

1.) Be social: Empty seats on airlines don’t do anybody any good (unless you are sitting next to one) so airlines will sometimes tweet out great deals on last-minute fares to fill some seats. Seats are limited to be sure to follow airlines on twitter to get first dibs.

2) Don’t be picky: Last minute vacations are the epitome of spontaneous – so be spontaneous! Don’t be picky on your destination. It’s always fun to check out a new place so if you find a great deal on lodging and flights to some random destination, make the most of it!

3) Last minute plans pay off: Hotels and other accommodations usually discount their unbooked rooms 2 weeks before the check-in dates. We always check out hotel deal sites to find the best last minute deal. A new one we found called Hotel Tonight has big discounts but you can only book 24 hours in advance. So if you are a ok waiting until the last minute you can get good deals. Also we always call the hotel before we book to double check their rate isn’t cheaper. One time the hotel had a special going on and it was $50 cheaper booking with the hotel directly. It doesn’t happen very often but it’s always good to double check 🙂

4) Discounts in the Area: Sometimes with last minute vacations you don’t have much time to research fun activities to do in that city. We check out deal sites like Groupon to find discounts on restaurants and activities. Probably one of my favorites was when we went to San Diego one time we got a deal for like $20 to go on a whale watching tour (I think it was regularly like $100). It was a blast!

5) Travel light: For weekend trips I’m usually pretty good about packing light. I can usually fit my stuff in a small suitcase or weekend bag (just got this cute unisex- weekender bag for Cody and I to share), but when it comes to travel for over 3 days I’m the worst packer! Cody has been challenging me for years now to simplify to a carry-on but not until a terrible experience a few weeks ago did I really learn my lesson. Let’s just say a cancelled flight, lost luggage and stroller, and a full extra day of travel don’t go over very well with a tired 1 year old. Point being, you never really have control over where your luggage ends up unless you keep it with you – meaning a carry-on (OBSESSED with this white one)!

Traveling over the years I have been through a few suitcases. I prefer the hard shell cases over cloth ones. I love this white one and this black one I’ve had for a few months and love.  Weekender bags are great because they work for both travel and day to day activities like the gym. Cody uses this bag for everything. (A good Father’s Day gift if your looking for ideas :).

PEACH WALLET (40% OFF – ON SALE) || SUNGLASSES (40% OFF – ON SALE) || DISTRESSED DENIM || BLUSH TRIMMED TOP (60% OFF – MORE SIZES HERE) || WATCH (30% OFF – ON SALE) || GIVENCHY NUDE TOTE (ON SALE!) || BLUSH BALLET FLATS (30% OFF – ON SALE)

First off I wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading all your comments from Monday’s post. I love connecting with you guys and I appreciate all of you that shared personal stories!! I definitely plan on doing more of those type posts in the future – I love being able to get to know you all better.

Today I wanted to share some more pieces I found on sale. I feel like I sound like a broken record but there are literally so many great pieces on sale right now. Everything on the board above is on sale. My favorite buy has hands down been this Givenchy bag!!! ON SALE! I had that heart flutter when I saw it and couldn’t believe it was discounted. The pink top I got for 60% off and these flats I got for 30% off.. I’ve slowly started collecting more flats since I’ve had B – I can’t live in heels as much as I used to 🙁 (and my feet thank me). I did still pick up some pumps though! I got these cute little watermelon pumps on sale and these black mules.

I think every major department store is holding their designer clearance sale right now (Nordstrom , Barneys, Saks, and Neimans) so there are plenty of places to get good deals. If you missed last week’s post you can see the designer sale items I got on sale during the SSENSE sale here. They just extended the sale a few more days! For more budget friendly items this Nike tank I wore in this post is 40% off, this gorgeous pink lace dress is 40% off, and I have a couple of these tanks they are super soft and are under $20.

Hope you all are enjoying your week!

Getting Criticized + 7 Ways to Stay Positive

We’ve all been criticized at one point or another. Obviously I open myself up to a little more than some choosing to have parts of my life on a public forum but I wanted to share some tips I’ve found for handling criticism and my thoughts on it. I remember about a year into blogging I got my first negative comment and it ruined my day (somebody told me I was too skinny and my outfit looked ridiculous) I called Cody crying and made a big deal out of nothing. Cody would always listen to me vent and be supportive but his response was always the same: “It isn’t a big deal, not everyone is going to like you”. I would respond “YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, they don’t even know me how could they just write something negative” but after awhile I realized he was right. I can tell you from experience it doesn’t happen overnight – but these are the things I’ve learned over the years that have helped me have a positive outlook on it all.

1. KINDNESS. I am a firm believer in karma and treating people with kindness. 95% of the time the person dishing it out has something else happening in their life and they are taking it out on you. Instead of being negative back just respond with something kind. Most of the time it’s the last thing they are expecting so you have the opportunity to turn their day around if they are just taking it out on you.

2. REFLECT. Over and over this has become a truth for me. What you focus on is what you attract. Ever notice when your having a bad day it seems like a million bad things are happening or vice versa for the good days. Reflect and see if maybe you are being negative and its bringing more negativity to your life.

3. HAVE AN OPEN MIND. Now this is probably one of the last things you want to hear, but sometimes what people are saying may have some truth to it. I remember someone commented on my blog a couple months ago: “Your blog has become so boring, all you ever wear is distressed denim and heels”. Obviously I don’t love hearing my blog is boring – but I looked back on my last ten posts and over half of them had been distressed denim and heels. So at the end of the day I was happy to hear the outside perspective even though it wasn’t positive.

4. DONT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. I really think I’ve heard every negative comment under the sun – from my parenting skills, to my body size, to the clothes I wear, to my grammatical errors (honestly I am a horrible speller!). Blogging for three years has definitely helped me develop a thicker skin but you really have to just let stuff go. Also keep in mind the scope of it all. It’s funny how one negative comment stands out so much more than 20 positive ones. Focus on the positive instead of the negative.

5. GIVE BACK. On those days you are hit with negativity don’t sit and sulk in misery, don’t text all your friends about your crappy day, do something positive to turn your day around. It can honestly be as simple as complimenting the next three people that walk by you. Choosing to stop focusing on yourself and give to others helps you move past the negativity. I love this quote by Mark Twain: ” The best way to cheer yourself up is to try and cheer somebody else up”.

6. HAPPY PLACE. When everything is driving me nuts I like to shut everything off and do something I love. Wether that’s going to the park with B, getting a pedicure or a massage, or doing a little retail therapy 😉 Take a little “you time” to do something you love. Treat yourself!

7. NOT EVERYONE HAS TO LIKE YOU. This is why I would never want to run for President. No matter what you do it seems like there is a group of people that hate you. Thankfully we don’t have it that hard, but at the end of the day you can’t be everyone’s BFF. If you’re in the blogging world not everyone is going to like your style so don’t take it personally. Invest in the relationships that matter in your life like family and be okay if not every outsider thinks your great.

At the end of the day the only thing you can control is how you react to negativity. What people say is out of your control but how you handle it is up to you. Choose to be positive and choose to be grateful and encourage others. Another quote I love is: “Be an encourager. The world already has plenty of critics.”

Thanks so much for reading, and thanks for all your comments (positive and negative) through out the years. I’ve learned so much doing this and I’m so thankful for this little online family we’ve created. Love you all!
