On a cooler spring (or even fall) day, layer up on top. A sweater, turtleneck, and jacket make it easy to peel and put back on depending on what turn the weather takes for the day. This sweater is sooo good – I’ll be trying to get as much wear out of it as possible before the summer! When it doubt, keep it monochromatic – it will ready more high-end.

One of my favorite spring silhouettes is a long layer over a shorter hem like shorts or a mini skirt. It’s such a fresh look and the layers bring a lot of interest to the outfit. Try a lightweight layer like a trench coat or a long cardigan. I love it layered over this crisp, oversized button up. Keep it current and casual with a cool combat boot – love a white combat boot for spring!

Another one of my favorite spring trends is shorts with knee-high boots (especially with a good heel on them!). It’s the perfect combo for the season and lets you milk every last drop out of your favorite boots before you have to put them away until fall. Dress it up with a beautiful, detailed blouse or keep it simple with a simple bodysuit.

Tennis date night! Nothing like bonding while breaking a sweat 🥰

Date nights have been a little bit different lately for everyone – not your typical dinner and a movie. Cody and I have been trying to switch things up a bit and put our heads together to get creative. Dates are so important, and even more so now! A lot of couples are spending more time than ever, but rubbing elbows working in a confined space together, helping out with chores around the house, etc. is way different than quality, date time together. One thing Cody & I have been trying to do lately is get outside and be active for our dates. I’ve actually loved it more than your usual date because we really focus on each other more and feels great to take advantage of beautiful days by moving around!

Couples who workout together stay together right? The other day we decided to dust off our tennis rackets and go get a little competitive. Cody is the most athletic person I know – he is so good at everything he tries, which makes it impossible to really compete with him haha but it’s fun to try. It was such a fun memory too, so I wanted to put together some other active date ideas to try:

1. Rollerblading.
2. Pool Olympics. Our kids insist on getting in on this one!
3. Basketball. I grew up playing basketball, so I get a little more competitive with Cody on this one, haha.
4. Garage sale challenge. A great way to minimize your home too – see who can gather the most objects!
5. Take a new workout class together.
6. Physical fitness test.  A blast from the past – did anyone else have to do physical fitness tests in elementary school?
7. Outdoor ninja warrior course. The set up is just as fun as actually running the course, not to mention watching each other attempt it haha.
8. Scavenger hunt. Have you and your partner create one then compare whose was the most fun!
9. Pickleball. A must try if you haven’t ever played – so fun.
10. Evening hike. Build a bonfire when you get to your destination!
11. Minute to win it challenges. Pinterest has great MTW ideas!
12. Croquet. This is one of my fams all-time favs!
13. Geocaching. Download the app or look up a nearby geocache online!
14. Teach each other something new.
15. Nerf fun war. The kids love to get in on this one too!
16. DIY mini-golf course. Try and see how complicated you can make each hole.
17. Fishing.
18. Make a Time Capsule. I love these so much- it’s so fun to go back and look at how much you’ve changed over the years.
19. Tennis.
20. Try a 2 person fitness challenge. We love to do team sit up with Ollie! He loves it so much!

With Valentine’s Day on Friday, I wanted to share a few Valentine’s gift ideas, from free/DIY to splurge gifts that you can pull off last minute. Here are a few of my favorites at all different price points!

Free

We all have those chores around the house that either keep getting put off or that you and your S/O take turns doing. Maybe it’s giving the dog a bath, going grocery shopping, doing the dishes or even those bigger DIY home improvement project. Just put together a coupon book to give your partner a free pass from some of those chores and it won’t go unappreciated.

Ok this is as far from ‘last minute’ as you can get, but start either a written journal (or even a ‘notes’ page on your phone) documenting 1 thing you love about your S/O everyday – somedays it will be something funny they said during the day, somedays it will be big gestures and moments, but not only will it be an epic gift next Valentine’s Day when you give it to your S/O, it will also help you focus on everything you love about them during the year.

Go pick up a globe or a map from Goodwill or a secondhand store (or you can find new options in-store or online for a really good price) and add a pin to all of the spots you have traveled to together. You can also print out pictures from your trips with little notes on the back sharing some of your favorite memories.

A box of gourmet chocolates. I don’t care if it’s for her or him, they are counting their carbs or trying to cut out sugar, what is Valentine’s Day without chocolate?

If your S/O’s idea of the perfect date night involves a comfy couch and big screen TV, you can’t top a movie scratch off poster. It may seem like just a poster, but as you start to scratch off each movie it will turn into a ton of fun, memorable date nights. Just add popcorn and a comfy blanket.

When in doubt, make reservations at one of your S/O’s favorite restaurants. The sooner you book the better, or you might get stuck eating at 4:45pm or 9pm, but it’s a no-brainer. As an alternative, you could celebrate with dinner the day before or after and plan a romantic night at home to avoid the crowds on the 14th.

Missed the cut off? That’s me, lol. I’m making custom Nike’s or Vans for Cody for Valentine’s. I haven’t decided which one, but then I’m going to print off a picture of the shoes to give him the day of. They take about 3-4 weeks to come usually, but that way he can be excited waiting for them too. 🙂

One of the best last minute gifts is a pair of tickets to an upcoming event. When I have a family member or friend’s birthday coming up, sometimes I’ll just browse Stubhub for a list of events in their area to get inspired. Sometimes it’s a concert of one of their favorite bands, a good comedy show, or tickets to their favorite basketball team. It’s always a win and nobody would guess it was a last minute gift idea.

If you are scrambling for a last minute present to impress, now is the time to book that trip to the destination your S/O has casually been bringing up. Whether it’s a dream trip overseas, a weekend camping trip, or a road trip home to visit their family, they’ll always remember that as the perfect Valentine’s Day present.

My overall shorts (on sale under $100) have been a huge player in my summer style line-up, but that doesn’t mean I have to pack them away at the end of summer! Get creative with some of your colder-weather staples to make your overalls work well into fall. Here are three pieces to pair with this summer staple to make a smooth transition into next season:

OPTION #1 : GREY TULLE DRESS

I had to throw a neutral option in the mix, right? We ordered Cody a statement suit (which you’ll see further down) and I thought something simple like this grey dress would make the perfect pairing. I actually loved this option! The silhouette, the elegant off-the-shoulder sleeves, plus it’s a great budget-friendly option. It didn’t fit the funky formal theme as well though, so onto my next option!

DETAILS: RED RUFFLED DRESS

The ruffled dress of my dreams, this one was definitely a statement dress. The embellished detailing, the ruffles, the ombre tulle – what’s not to love?! The only problem was it clashed a bit with Cody’s suit options so it ended up in the no pile, but if I were going solo it might have been a close call.

DETAILS: OFF THE SHOULDER DRESS

This. Dress!!! The first thing that got me was the silhouette with the gorgeous flowy pleats and sleeves, but when I saw it in person the hand-dyed effect on the color was insane. Honestly such a breathtaking piece of art! One small problem… I couldn’t zip it up 😭 Pregnancy life!!  I had sized up two sizes but underestimated how big my bump had gotten (especially in the evenings.) Still such an amazing dress and definitely one of my favorites.

Neon and floral! When I heard the theme was funky formal, my first thought was neon so I was immediately drawn to this one by Leanne Marshall. I love the strap detailing and the hem line makes it flow beautifully. Here’s that statement suit for Cody I mentioned earlier. We found a ton of floral suit options here and I love how fun they are! Great for any upcoming summer events.

2. Do you guys like Valentine’s Day? It’s kind of a weird holiday…I feel like it puts a lot of pressure on people. You know how they say the “just because” moments or the random “for no reason” mean the most? I totally agree with that but I do love celebrating love and I’ll take any excuse to get some flowers 😛 so I’m 50/50. 

3. We used to get more dressed up for Vday celebrations and now we keep it pretty casual. I got Cody and I these matching Levi’s jackets – I think it’s one of the few things he might be willing to twin with me 😉. I got his initials embroidered on the back, they have three different spots you can put the embroidery on. It’s so cute and it comes really fast which is rare for custom stuff! This jacket would make such a great Valentine’s Day gift. 

4. Speaking of Valentine’s Day…you don’t have to go all out to celebrate. Here are some easy at home ideas we have done in the past: Put the kids to bed and set up a cozy bed in front of the TV with popcorn, yummy drinks and snacks and snuggle up and watch a good movie; Leave love notes around the house in sticky notes — this is one of my favorites even when its not Vday!; take turns that week making each other a new and different meal with a recipe you find on Pinterest. Any other ideas? Would love to hear yours!

5. Levi’s have always been one of my favorite go-to denim brands. Especially their high rise denim! Their denim always fit so well and are at such a good price! I think they are all under $100!  I love this black pair I’m wearing in these pics I needed a solid black pair with no distressing. 

6. We got blinds put in this week and I don’t know why it made me so happy!  I think with all the windows in our new house, I started feeling like anyone could see into our house and so being able to just run around not worried about who’s looking in has brought me a weird sense of relief lol. 

7. I used to be at fashion week almost every time around Valentine’s Day but the last couple years I just dread the cold so much that I haven’t gone so I’m excited to be here for Vday!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!  There are so many holiday traditions that I love doing with my family this time of year.

A few of my very favorites are:

• Doing the Elf on the Shelf with the kiddos (if I can keep track of and find that dang elf each year!! haha) The kids look forward to this one so much — so just to warn you, once you do it one year…you have to do it every year!  Even though I always run out of ideas, its worth seeing the look on the kids faces each morning when they find the elf! If you need help with ideas like me – there are so many cute ideas of what to do with the elf online, and the Elf also comes with a book with tons of good ideas too!
• The 12 days of Christmas!  This started yesterday and its something I have been doing since I was little with my parents.  They would surprise me each morning with something new (socks, candy, etc) and each morning I would sing the 12 days of Christmas song with them counting down every day until Christmas. It was so much fun that I do this with the kids now too!
• I grew up in Montana and went to cut down our Christmas tree with my family each year and its one of my best holiday memories. The smell of a fresh tree reminds me so much of home at the holidays now that I had to get a fresh tree this year too!  Its another fun holiday tradition that I want to continue with the kids as they grow.

TGIFFFFF!! What are you guys up to this weekend? The holidays always bring the hustle and bustle of events and work and family parties don’t forget to make time to spend with your SO just you two! Some months I’m super good at making sure we get “us” time and other times we struggle. For Cody and I our date nights usually consist of dinner and a movie, which we both love doing together! But it can be fun to switch things up once in a while for a night out with your significant other and do things that you wouldn’t maybe normally do. Here’s 2o ideas for dates that aren’t so typical!

1. Binge Watch Netflix: Order some takeout, snuggle up on the couch and spend the night in. Have you guys seen the show Designated Survivor? It’s our new favorite lately!
2. Make A Scavenger Hunt: Be creative and come up with different clues that take you both back to special places, inside jokes or anything else that will give you both a walk down memory lane.
3. Go To A Cooking Class: Many restaurants, grocery stores and even colleges offer cooking classes for couples. Then you can save money in the future by making fancy dinners at home rather than going out!
4. Make A Candlelight Dinner At Home: Put those cooking skills to the test now 😉
5. Go To An Arcade: We have a nickel arcade in Utah and its super fun to go play games, get a bunch of tickets and win cheesy stuff.
6. Find A Workout Class: Couples that sweat together stay together right? Find a class near you that you both have tried before, spin, zumba, kickboxing, anything else that gets your endorphins flowing!
7. Play Tourist: Go to the most popular restaurant in town, visit a famous landmark or anything else your city is known for.
8. Recreate Your First Date: If you went out for dinner, go to the same restaurant or watch the same movie you went out to!
9. Have A Game Night: Monopoly deal is our favorite right now.
10. Do A DIY Project Together: Find something on Pinterest like a craft or home project and try to recreate it!
11. Try Something You’ve Both Never Done Before: Sometimes the best dates involve doing something that neither of you have done before. Find a class or restaurant you’ve never been to and see how you end up liking it.
12. Have A 5 Course Dinner At 5 Different Places: Go to a different restaurant for each course of your meal! Somewhere for appetizers, entrees and dessert!
13. Wake Up Early And Watch The Sunrise Together: Not all dates need to be at night!
14. Bake Something: Bake cookies, a cake or anything else your sweet tooth desires! Any activity that involves eating is my kinda date 😉
15. Do The Other Persons Favorite Hobby/Activity: What is something your S/O loves? Whether they’re into yoga or sporting events or anything else, they will love that you’re taking the time to do one of their favorite things with them!
16. Shop For Each Other: Set up a budget, even just $5 or $10 and try to pick out something that reminds you of the other person.
17. Go On A Mini Road Trip: Find a destination not too far from where you live and make a day out of it!
18. Get Dressed Up And Have A Fancy Night Out: When’s the last time you got all dressed up and had a night on the town? Go to a fancy restaurant or even rent your dream car for the weekend!
19. Go On A Hike: Free dates can be the best kind of dates!!
20. Volunteer Together: Make a point sometime to opt for a meaningful date rather than a traditional one. Volunteer at a soup kitchen or nursing home It will be such a great experience to share together!

A few weeks ago,  we got to celebrate one of my best friends on her most special wedding day!! Whitney started working with me five years ago, and she became like family. Her big day couldn’t have been more magical. Her wedding was up in the mountains at the prettiest lodge in Utah. The ceremony was outdoors and then there was a beautiful dinner inside. The decorations and flowers were so stunning!! I was dying over all the little details. She has such an amazing creative eye and it was so cool seeing all her hard work come to life! She looked so beautiful!! And can we talk about her veil and the fresh flowers she had in it?! So beautiful! 

I got a lot of questions about what we wore to the event, and I had just got home from fashion week so I ran to the mall a couple hours before the wedding to find a dress! I saw this and didn’t even look at price and when I went to check out It was under $20!!! I was shocked! and is perfect for any special occasion you have coming up. Beckam’s suit is currently sold out in the color he’s wearing, but I just ordered another one in a different color here!

I might have one too many pairs of jeans in my closet, but denim never disappoints! I can’t help but to always be on the lookout for more great pairs to add to my closet. I was so excited to find these washed out 7 For All Mankind pink jeans! They’re unlike anything else I have right now and are actually really wearable and go with more things than I thought they would. Usually when you think of fall you think of dark colors and neutrals, but pinks and pastels are really in this season and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon! I love the pink on pink trend too and loved how the jeans looked with an oversized sweater. They also look good with a neutral top if you want to tone it down a little bit.

When it comes to Cody and his jeans, he just wants a pair that are super stretchy and comfy. Enter these grey jeans! He loves how comfortable they are and likes that they have a nice slim fit without being too tight. The color is perfect for him to wear now and through fall and winter!

Happy Monday guys!! How was your weekend? Ever since it’s started warming up here we can’t help but to be outside as much as possible. These pics were from last week, One of B’s favorite things to do lately is ride his bike around the neighborhood (before everyone freaks out about not having his helmet one- he has one and wears it!! He just wanted to show our friends his new bike before Cody went to dinner with his friends 🙂 On laid back days like this I totally go for my typical mom uniform which usually includes comfy jeans (these are under $100) and a good basic tank. These distressed jeans are so comfy and I love wearing them with more casual outfits. I’m also obsessed with these layered necklaces (here and here) and have been wearing them with everything!

This weekend Mara and Wes were over (I always get so many dm’s asking why they aren’t in more pics, or who these new kids in my insta stories are lol, so I know I sound like a broken record but they are my step babies and we only have them part time 🙂 We started doing yard work this weekend, and some spring cleaning getting ready to have people over! We have a covered patio in the back on the second floor of our house and we haven’t done anything with it since we moved in, it had patio furniture I bought the summer before but we were gone so much it never got assembled 🙈 so this weekend we cleaned it all up and finally put the furniture together! I had this fun idea to build a tent and camp outside on the patio, sleep under the stars with the kids and eat popcorn all night. It was going to be perfect, so we borrowed my sister in laws tent, attempted to set it up – Cody and I ended up arguing over how to put up the tent half way into it lol, realized it wouldn’t stay up super well because it’s on a patio and we don’t have dirt to secure it down to, so needless to say my picture perfect tent night under the stars turned into a disgruntled mess! Ha! Cody and I ended up laughing about it because I think as a parent sometimes we create these “special” moments in our head of what we want something to be, and it doesn’t work out! So the next night, Cody pulled our mattresses onto the deck and set up the tv with popcorn and blankets all sweet to surprise us. We started to watch The Wizard of Oz, and realized how noisy it was and that we all get allergies haha – we bagged it again.

Now everyone is asleep in our room and I’m wide awake for some reason, watching reruns of The Office, and just thinking about how thankful I am for family…. anyways – have you guys had one of those moments you build up in your head and it doesn’t quite work out 😉

I don’t feel like the pictures do justice but these were the beautiful glaciers! It was seriously so surreal to see! So many of them are melting, they said they are continually getting smaller each year so was really thankful to see them!

If I’m totally honest we all got matching moon boots just because we thought they were cute but they were the warmest boots!  And really light weight! You know when your walking around in the heaviest boots and it feels like your feet are a million pounds. These are so lightweight!

We all started our blogs around the same time and used to have monthly girls lunches when we all lived in Utah before we had kids – all these girls have amazing blogs if you don’t follow you should 🙂 From left to right (Rachel – Pink Peonies, Cara – Caraloren, Amber – Barefoot Blonde)

This was one of the coldest Cody and I have ever been! It was crazy windy and soooo chilly but the views were so so worth it!

In case you guys missed it we were in Whistler last week. The Helicopter Glacier Tour was definitely one of the highlights of the trip (Thanks to Blackcomb Helicopter Tours for having us!!) The glacier is twelve thousand years old and seven thousand feet from sea level. I literally had on four layers, two pairs of gloves and hand warmers, and I was still the coldest I have ever been in my entire life. (Literally the only part of my body that was warm was my feet from my boots and this isn’t even sponsored 😂 – they are just so warm, I was shocked!). The windchill was nuts but I think the adrenaline rush got me through it haha. It was 360 views on top of the glacier above the clouds. It felt like a movie! We were going to have lunch up there too, but with the strong winds we weren’t able to do it. We were up there for like 45 mins, so you’ll definitely want to wear pretty much every layer you pack. These pictures don’t even do it justice though – you have to see it in person!

The guys went in the second helicopter behind us, and as soon as we took off, their pilot told them they had 2 minutes to get in the helicopter. After they got on and took off, the pilot told them that if they had waited any longer to get in the chopper, the clouds would have moved in and they wouldn’t have been able to take off. I guess it had happened once before when the pilot told the group they had 3 minutes and they took 7 minutes taking pics, etc. They ended up stuck on the mountain for 3 days and people had to hike up food and supplies to the group until the clouds cleared enough for them to be able to take off.  (So glad it was the guys and not us that left second – no doubt we would have been late and totally gotten stuck on the mountain! lol) It sounds a little intense but Blackcomb Helicopter Tours know what they are doing, so as long as you don’t ignore them when they tell you to get back to the helicopter, you will have the best time ever! It was Rachel and Cara’s first time in a helicopter and they said it was one of the best things they have ever done! So if your nervous don’t be its one of those amazing things you will look back and be so glad you did! Tomorrow I’m sharing a full travel diary of our trip and a little video so be sure to tune in 🙂

Sometimes gifts are more about moments, and sometimes it’s more about the items themselves. I think everyone has different love languages. Have you guys ever taken the love language test? It’s seriously so helpful when understanding your significant other! It’s helped me understand how to give Cody better gifts for any event. Cody’s love language is time. It’s quality time together. Sometimes we make those elaborate things, other times it’s silly things for no reason. This year we’ve been doing little things for each other every day of December leading up to Christmas. And because time is so important to him, I went with a watch as one of his gifts to symbolize that our time together is always on my mind. He is the best at being romantic and giving good thoughtful gifts so I wanted to get him something symbolic of the time and take him to do something fun. We dressed up and went to an old school diner by where we used to live and got our favorite ice cream. You can’t go wrong with a classic watch for your S/O to add to their collection. It’s a staple accessory that he will wear every day. I just got Cody this Citizen one from Macy’s – they are powered by any kind of light so they never need a battery change. I love the blue face for a little accent color to his look but it’s still really polished and goes with everything. Also love this one and this black one for a more neutral option.

This holiday skirt!

Wes got baptized this weekend and this is the outfit Cody wore. I wanted to get a holiday shirt for him but he’s picky about not getting super cheesy with his holiday wear, so I had to find something that didn’t scream Christmas and found this one. I loved the coloring on it and it’s a subtle holiday feel so he can make it work during the rest of the year too. It’s always my favorite when he wears bow ties!! Love the tiny polka dot print on this one.  He’s had the same grey peacoat for years that’s still going strong so I also wanted to get him another color. This one is great – you can zip the lining in and out so it almost looks like two separate coats that you can wear for different occasions, plus having a black coat is something that never goes out of style.

This is the same skirt I wore to the baptism and as you can tell I’m the polar opposite haha. I love a pretty holiday red and this satin pleated skirt is perfect. I love how full it is! It also comes in this pretty pearl pink. You can take it to a full holiday level with a sparkly sweater or make it more versatile by styling it with other colors. Also the black turtleneck I have had for two years and it’s the best basic layering item! This one is so so soft!!

One of my favorites aspects of blogging is getting to be creative – I love when brands give a theme or concept and we get to create a story! David Yurman’s holiday collection was “Enchanted Forest” so we came up with this beautiful snowy mountain escape. Obviously I don’t get dressed up in a gown to go explore mountain tops any old day, but it was so fun to shoot something magical for one of my favorite jewelry brands.

A lot of times during the holidays I end up giving a lot of little gifts that I find randomly throughout the holidays, and usually by the time I’m done I spend as much as I would have if I had just splurged on one special investment gift. A David Yurman piece is something you will wear forever so it’s a perfect gift for the special people in your life. Cody loves their bracelets and I’m obsessed with all their pieces from the Silver Sensations gift shop, especially rings – love this crossover one and these pretty earrings.
