We have all been in situations where we are left scrambling to pull a look together at the last minute. You ruined your outfit on your way to an event or got off work late and don’t have time to change before a date. Or, in my case, you get a phone call from your husband saying we are doubling with his colleague in 20 minutes. For some reason those calls always seem to come when I am least prepared: running errands in sweats and sneakers without a trace of make up and no time to run home to change.

In such moments of desperation, I know I can flip my look around by making one quick pit stop at Target to grab a few affordable basics. The key to selecting these staples is to choose something you could, and would, wear on repeat.

Lipstick: A bold lip is the quickest way to give an ensemble an evening feel. It also does wonders in distracting onlookers from noticing your lack of make up by brightening your face
Blazer: Is there really any other piece that can make a graphic tee or hoodie seem more appropriate for a night out? This camel blazer was a great find – one that I knew would get a lot of wear despite being an impulse purchase.
Jeans: Although you might prefer a skirt or dress to take your transformation to a new level, jeans are a foolproof, no-hassle alternative.
Heels: A pair of pumps instantly elevates any outfit. Maybe it’s just me, but I always have a pair (or 4) floating around my car for those just-in-case moments.

After these few adjustments, no one would believe that you had only 20 minutes’ notice. And isn’t that point? 🙂

Paris Part Two

This rounds up the rest of our time in Paris (you can see first paris post here). I can’t believe it’s been over a month since we were there. It’s funny looking back and seeing how much B has changed already. I got B and I these matching neon shoes for the trip (worn in this post). I’m bummed I didn’t get a pic of both us wearing them at the same time, but they are 40% off now. I got a size 6 in boys and it’s the same as a 8 in women’s. I’m totally that cheesy mom that loves to match. I guess shoes is what I resort to since I can’t really match his clothes 🙂

Rue Cremieux was one of my favorite tourist spots for sure. If you visit Paris you need to go there! It is the cutest street with all these bright pastel buildings. Apparently you aren’t supposed to drive down it. Me the idiot tourist just pulled in and parked on the side. We were getting some nasty looks until people started pointing at this sign I realized what was going on. Ooops! It was so cute watching Atticus and Beckam play together they were cracking up. B kept trying to suck on Atticus hand and he would look all confused and then they would start laughing like crazy. It was so sweet. It’s funny watching how babies interact with each other.

Surprise surprise more Eiffel Tower pics 🙂 We literally went every day we were there. At night they do a light show where the whole thing lights up and sparkles. It’s so beautiful, make sure you make it back in the evening to watch. I think it’s every hour on the hour if I remember right…anyways, you can’t go wrong whatever you end up doing in Paris. I feel like I only got a small taste of the city. Can’t wait to go back!

Casual Weekend Style

Outerwear selections are insane this time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love a pretty dress coat (this pink one is my favorite), but you also need a good basic, neutral jacket that you can wear with anything. I got this quilted black puffer a couple weeks and it’s been the perfect light weight layer as we run around on the weekends. I think people automatically assume quilter or puffer jackets make you look puffy, but it’s actually the opposite. Flat stitching and quilting on a smaller scale will actually make a piece more form fitting and feminine (stay away from larger puffs and oversized coats to keep it sleek) A quilted jacket’s versatility allows it to go from sporty to chic at the flip of a switch, like switching sneakers for heels. The quilted texture keeps things interesting, so keep other textures understated to let the quilted feature be the star of the show.

The soft pink tones of spring and summer have now made their way into fall and winter. but designers have strayed from the typical jewel-toned and neutral palettes that used to dominate fall fashion by incorporating soft tones into their collections. By taking a few cues from their designs, we can flawlessly rock these soft, feminine colors year-round.

A Basic Tee 4 Ways from Flats to Heels

With 365 days in a year and only so much room in a closet, rethinking the ways you wear an item is a must. It is easy to get stuck in a rut, always pairing the same or similar pieces together, or to let older pieces get tucked away with out reusing them.

A basic tee is one of the most versatile but also most underrated pieces in a closet. In hopes of sparking your creativity, here are a few ways to restyle your favorite basic tee with simple basic pieces you may already have in your closet. I choose a colored tee, but all these looks work great with any color.

LOOK 1:

1. Date Night: While it might seem counterintuitive to grab a t-shirt for a date, pairing it with edgier and feminine accessories gives a basic tee a life of its own. Feminine colors and a pair of heels add a softer touch, while a black crop jacket and black accessories add an edgy, masculine balance.

LOOK 2:

I am obsessed with these new jogger pants. I got them in three colors – they are super soft and a sleek sweat pant. Pair a few simple accessories to your daytime look to create a laid back but put-together weekend ensemble.

This on-the-go look is always a great option for transitioning from errands to a girls’ night.

Today’s look is another black and white outfit. I loved this Michael Kor’s contrast button up. The oversized pockets and fit give it a more relaxed feel, easy to dress down with distressed denim or dress up with a pencil skirt for work. Zappos has always had an amazing shoe selection but now they carry so many of my favorite clothing brands (AG Jeans, Rebecca Taylor, Joie, etc). I was excited to team up with them and show you a few of my favorites apparel items. But honestly the best thing about Zappos for me is the free overnight shipping. I’m always so anxious to get the things I order so it’s nice being able to have them the next day at no extra charge.

Happy Monday everyone! Thank you for all the birthday wishes! We had such a great weekend celebrating. It’s crazy the older you get the faster time goes. I can’t believe its February all ready.

Who else watched the Superbowl this weekend? I was raised about an hour and half outside of Seattle so I grew up going to Seahawk games with my Dad. It was pretty exciting watching them get their first Super Bowl win, but my favorite part is always the commercials. Budweiser’s commercial with the puppy and horse was hands down the best. Black and white, it’s the classic combo I can’t get enough of. I love taking basic outfits and pairing them with bold statement jewelry to accent the simplicity. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you my pants were unzipped for these pictures though. No not by accident, I just can’t find maternity pants I like. Does anyone have suggestions?? I have resorted to the rubber band trick and layering long t-shirts to hide my McGiver attempt at keeping my pants buttoned, but I’m in some desperate need of some new pants!
