It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! There are so many holiday traditions that I love doing with my family this time of year.

A few of my very favorites are:

Doing the Elf on the Shelf with the kiddos (if I can keep track of and find that dang elf each year!! haha) The kids look forward to this one so much — so just to warn you, once you do it one year…you have to do it every year! Even though I always run out of ideas, its worth seeing the look on the kids faces each morning when they find the elf! If you need help with ideas like me – there are so many cute ideas of what to do with the elf online, and the Elf also comes with a book with tons of good ideas too!
The 12 days of Christmas! This started yesterday and its something I have been doing since I was little with my parents. They would surprise me each morning with something new (socks, candy, etc) and each morning I would sing the 12 days of Christmas song with them counting down every day until Christmas. It was so much fun that I do this with the kids now too!
I grew up in Montana and went to cut down our Christmas tree with my family each year and its one of my best holiday memories. The smell of a fresh tree reminds me so much of home at the holidays now that I had to get a fresh tree this year too! Its another fun holiday tradition that I want to continue with the kids as they grow.

The sale items are up to 40% so it’s a great time to snag some good basics at really good prices or to splurge on higher end pieces while they are on sale! I’ve always loved sundresses for spring and summer and love the bow detailing on this blue one and this polka dot one (also obsessed with this yellow one!!). Hey guys! I may or may not have a slight shoe obsession, so of course I had to round up some of my current favorite pairs for spring and summer! I’m all over the woven shoe trend and love the look and fit of these block ankle boots and also love these cute pom pom espadrilles (Under $100). Tennis shoes are something I wear almost every single day, whether it’s a pair that I can wear from the gym to running errands like these, or more fashion forward statement shoes that are easier to dress up, (so so obsessed with this pair!). I love cute feminine heels hence why I’m loving slingback kitten heels lately – how cute are these?!

Happy Friday guys! Saks is having their sneak peek sale right now so I wanted to share some of my favorites. Whenever one of my favorite retailers has a big sale I finally pull the trigger on everything I’ve been procrastinating on haha. I have been needing new jeans that weren’t distressed (I think 95% of my jeans are distressed and realized I needed something different!) but I wanted something beyond a basic skinny jean, so I was so excited to find these 40% off. This is one of those pieces that I really liked online but I loved when I got them and tried them one – love when that happens! Obsessed with the frayed hem detail and the relaxed fit.

I have been wanting some more basic black tops – I feel like I have so many light colors – and this distressed sweatshirt (on sale under $100) is actually a t-shirt material so it’s perfect for spring or cool summer nights. You can transition it for a night out too – just pair it with heels and a red lip for an edgy, cool date night look. I also got this denim skirt (under $100) and love it with this sweatshirt. It’s the perfect casual cool outfit for running errands during the day. I’ve always loved a sweatshirt-mini skirt combo!

If there’s one thing the turns any piece into a statement, it’s embellishment. I love how bold embellishments are being incorporated into so many different pieces this season from jackets and statement outerwear, to shoes and accessories. You guys recognize these boots from last year – I’m obsessed with the pearl detail! If you regretted not getting them last year, definitely pull the trigger! They are such an amazing statement piece and one you will wear with everything! Also obsessed with this patent pair. How pretty is that bee detail?? If you worry embellishments are too much of a statement for you, start simple and tone it down with a monochromatic look – it’s impossible to get wrong.

I’ve also been wanting a colorful bag this season (I’ve been on too much of a neutrals kick!) and I loved this one. Red is always a timeless color that never goes out of style. Also love the metallic chain detail – it’s a simple embellishment but adds an edgy vibe.

Hey guys! Cody and I are heading to Sun Valley this weekend with his family for his annual family trip! Monday is a holiday in Utah so we’re excited to get away and spend some time with the fam! I always procrastinate packing, but part of me secretly loves it. Today’s look is all about those 5 staples you need for your next weekend getaway.

A Graphic Sweatshirt. Always, always pack sleeves! Whether you get cold on the plane, tend to freeze in restaurants, or unexpected weather hits, you’ll never regret packing a good layer. I’m obsessed with this sweatshirt! You can wear it front or backwards for two completely different looks. It’s super comfy and has a really great fit, so you can dress it up with tuxedo pants and heels or add jeans and slides for cozy travel style. The sweatshirt is a little oversized so you can order your usual size for the boyfriend fit. (Also comes in a London print. 🙂
Scarves: A scarf are another piece that’s really versatile and can be worn in multiple ways. There are so many ways to incorporate scarves into your look, they are becoming a fast favorite! Worn as a headband or around your pony, tied at your ankle, as a bag accent, or around your neck, it’s such an easy way to bring more color or an interesting print into your ensemble. I can’t get enough gingham right now so I’m dying over this one!
Slides: I try to pack as much into one getaway as possible, so shoes that are easy to put on and slip off are a must (especially when it comes to airport security). These suede slides are such a simple and sleek style and go with everything.
Your favorite pair of jeans: When you are traveling, nothing beats being comfortable. I always look for a super stretchy jean and love these by rag + bone! I’m obsessed because they are so stretchy and I love the cropped hem since they work with sandals without bunching at the ankle and are great with over the knee boots. An oversized boyfriend is a comfortable option for traveling too – love this pair!

Happy Friday guys! I ordered this satin duster (under $30) for a beach trip last fall and thought it was the perfect topper for a simple black and white outfit. Also obsessed with this nude option! Long dusters or trenches are one of my favorite layers to transition into spring and work for weekend style or the office. I love the flowy silhouette against fitted leather leggings – so effortless but still looks put together and sophisticated. It’s an easy outfit with a baseball cap and sneakers to run errands and you can swap your sneakers for heels for an instant date-night ready look.

Ok guys, let’s get real for a second. As fast as fashion is evolving, it can be hard to keep up. And when you take a moment to consider how many trends emerge each season, it can be overwhelming. You might give them a fair shot, but it can be tricky to really feel like you are mastering the look. The progression of style might be frustrating, but it is what makes fashion fun! How else are you going to get that thrill when you rock a new fad for the first time? Earlier this week I asked you to submit one thing you love about style and something you find challenging via Facebook. Because every girl should know the feeling of conquering a trend, here are a few quick tips to turn those challenges into triumphs. The looks below are just slightly varied to help answer your questions and give you ideas for varying one outfit.

Q: I just can’t pull of crop tops. Help?

Conquering the Crop: This year we are seeing with increasing frequency the crop top. This may seem like a tough trend, but a few simple guidelines will leave you looking like a pro. But be prepared: once you successfully crop, you can’t stop!

· When showing skin, keep it minimal. A pencil skirt will leave a crop top looking polished but also let you bare a little skin.

· To cover up, layer a longer shirt under a cropped sweater. This bottom layer is a great place to incorporate a pattern to keep your look more interesting.

· Crop tops come in a range of lengths, so find one that you feel is flattering and play with waistlines or layering lengths until you land on the perfect combination.

Q: How can I successfully mix prints and patterns?

Mastering the Mix: Don’t be intimidated by the thought of mixing multiple patterns into your look. The truth is, it is surprisingly difficult to mess up when mixing just two prints, but here are a few beginner basics to keep in mind.

· Mixing classic patterns requires minimal effort. Combos like plaid and leopard, stripes and plaid, and dots and stripes will always result in a winning look.

· Try pieces with common colors present to make sure patterns complement each other instead of clashing. Ex: Black tied into a plaid, stripe, and/or animal print.

· Create a base that anchors your look by wearing a solid-colored piece.

· Mix small and large patterns! Same-sized patterns will compete with each other, but bold and subtle prints together, like today’s large plaid with thin stripes and small animal print, make the mix seem more cohesive.

· Monochromatic patterns, like these black quilted boots, are a subtle and seamless way to incorporate a second (or even third!) pattern into your look.

· Try animal print on animal print. You can also incorporate stripes or checks to bring in more pattern.

Q: What boot looks best with what hem length and should I show socks or skin?
This is really based on preference. I wear ankle boots with all hem lengths. With jeans I tuck them into boots, with skirts I wear socks or I go bare skin. If you are going to go with bunched socks shoot for dresses or skirts that hit at the knee or above. Longer pieces will crop the length of your legs and make them look shorter. Start with black knit socks paired with black boots it is the easiest way to ease into the trend.

Q: How can I make affordable pieces look high-end?

Budget-Friendly Feats: The key to making budget-friendly pieces look more expensive is to integrate investment pieces. So I actually saw this version of these stripe shoes last Spring. I fell in love but went back and forth on buying them because I wasn’t sure how much they would match. By the time I decided I really liked them and went back to purchase they were sold out. I hate when that happens! I had kind of forgot about them until I stumbled on this budget friendly version last week. I was excited for the find 🙂

I’m back! It has been a fun couple days in NYC and I’m finally sitting down to take a few minutes to share the looks. We caught the red eye last Wednesday and I literally didn’t sleep for 36 hours. I was a bit tired to say the least.

The first day I was visiting showrooms and going to meetings for ILY so I wore a more basic look. Nichole Miller was for sure a highlight. We were able to go back in their studio and see the process of how the pieces are made. It was so incredible.
