SPRING SPRING SPRING! Doesn’t it just make you so happy! Today is two casual everyday looks in my favorite classic neutral tones. I always have a jacket in my car for those sporadic cold days, and it’s still really cool at night here. We just launched this military jacket at ILY and I love how it’s a statement piece but still neutral so it works with anything. We also just added these denim shorts (under $100) and I love the wash and fit. So excited it’s getting time for shorts season again! Also these white sandals are kind of a dupe of a designer pair but I love them so much! I wore them a ton on our beach trips earlier this year and they just restocked the sizes! They are under $100 too!

We’ve officially been home for a week! It’s been nice to get back into the routine of things, have some home-cooked meals at dinner, and spend some more time with extended family. When we got home last week I was just so overwhelmed with all the crap we have in our house that I went into major dejunking binge and started getting rid of everything in our house haha. You know when you get to that point that you just get tired of putting the same things away that you never use? We got rid of so much stuff, it’s the best feeling in the world! I’ve tried to be more hesitant about what I buy so my house doesn’t look like I deserve my own episode of hoarders (ok I’m exaggerating, but you know what I mean :).

One thing that always gets a ton of wear is my sneaker s. I’ve always been a sneaker girl! I’ll take them in (almost) any color. But metallics are the closest neutral to white that you can wear with ANYTHING. This metallic pair I’ve been living in. They are super soft and I love that they are easy to slide on and off. (I always keep my laces loose so I can get sneakers on and off really easily 🙂 A soft leather mtallic is a dressier, chic version of that classic white sneaker we all have in our closet but a great alternative for another neutral option you can mix and match. If you think of how much you can mix and match your silver jewelry, a silver sneaker is the same thing – it goes with everything!

Just as we were starting to get used to 60 degree weather we got hit with more snow. There’s nothing more disappointing than packing away your winter wardrobe and having to pull it all out again so I always keep a few great staples for the awkward season when winter transitions to spring.

1. Cropped sweater: One of my favorite combos to make the transition is layer a crop top over your look. It adds some dimension and is the perfect outer-layer for spring.
2. Shirt dress: A shirt-dress (worn as a a top here) is a great versatile piece that you can wear year round, whether layered under a sweater, tied off as a top over a bodycon dress, or by itself with your favorite gladiator sandals when it really warms up you can’t go wrong however you style it. 3. White denim: I always gravitate towards white in winter and spring so I’m always grabbing my favorite white denim (this one under $100; also love this extra distressed pair). It keeps your look feeling fresh no matter what the weather is outside.
4. Pastels: There’s nothing like soft pastels to brighten up your wardrobe. I love this pretty powder blue cocoon coat for those cold mornings or evenings and how pretty is this trench and this pink one?

We’ve all been criticized at one point or another. Obviously I open myself up to a little more than some choosing to have parts of my life on a public forum but I wanted to share some tips I’ve found for handling criticism and my thoughts on it. I remember about a year into blogging I got my first negative comment and it ruined my day (somebody told me I was too skinny and my outfit looked ridiculous) I called Cody crying and made a big deal out of nothing. Cody would always listen to me vent and be supportive but his response was always the same: “It isn’t a big deal, not everyone is going to like you”. I would respond “YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, they don’t even know me how could they just write something negative” but after awhile I realized he was right. I can tell you from experience it doesn’t happen overnight – but these are the things I’ve learned over the years that have helped me have a positive outlook on it all.

1. KINDNESS. I am a firm believer in karma and treating people with kindness. 95% of the time the person dishing it out has something else happening in their life and they are taking it out on you. Instead of being negative back just respond with something kind. Most of the time it’s the last thing they are expecting so you have the opportunity to turn their day around if they are just taking it out on you.

2. REFLECT. Over and over this has become a truth for me. What you focus on is what you attract. Ever notice when your having a bad day it seems like a million bad things are happening or vice versa for the good days. Reflect and see if maybe you are being negative and its bringing more negativity to your life.

3. HAVE AN OPEN MIND. Now this is probably one of the last things you want to hear, but sometimes what people are saying may have some truth to it. I remember someone commented on my blog a couple months ago: “Your blog has become so boring, all you ever wear is distressed denim and heels”. Obviously I don’t love hearing my blog is boring – but I looked back on my last ten posts and over half of them had been distressed denim and heels. So at the end of the day I was happy to hear the outside perspective even though it wasn’t positive.

4. DONT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. I really think I’ve heard every negative comment under the sun – from my parenting skills, to my body size, to the clothes I wear, to my grammatical errors (honestly I am a horrible speller!). Blogging for three years has definitely helped me develop a thicker skin but you really have to just let stuff go. Also keep in mind the scope of it all. It’s funny how one negative comment stands out so much more than 20 positive ones. Focus on the positive instead of the negative.

5. GIVE BACK. On those days you are hit with negativity don’t sit and sulk in misery, don’t text all your friends about your crappy day, do something positive to turn your day around. It can honestly be as simple as complimenting the next three people that walk by you. Choosing to stop focusing on yourself and give to others helps you move past the negativity. I love this quote by Mark Twain: ” The best way to cheer yourself up is to try and cheer somebody else up”.

6. HAPPY PLACE. When everything is driving me nuts I like to shut everything off and do something I love. Wether that’s going to the park with B, getting a pedicure or a massage, or doing a little retail therapy 😉 Take a little “you time” to do something you love. Treat yourself!

7. NOT EVERYONE HAS TO LIKE YOU. This is why I would never want to run for President. No matter what you do it seems like there is a group of people that hate you. Thankfully we don’t have it that hard, but at the end of the day you can’t be everyone’s BFF. If you’re in the blogging world not everyone is going to like your style so don’t take it personally. Invest in the relationships that matter in your life like family and be okay if not every outsider thinks your great.

At the end of the day the only thing you can control is how you react to negativity. What people say is out of your control but how you handle it is up to you. Choose to be positive and choose to be grateful and encourage others. Another quote I love is: “Be an encourager. The world already has plenty of critics.”

You’ve probably started noticing flared denim making it’s way back this year (love this pair because of the frayed detail on the bottom). We’ve all been around long enough to see styles circulate. Aging myself a little here, but I had these same style of pants my freshman/sophomore year of college. I was looking for a picture so we could share a laugh but I haven’t tracked it down yet 🙂

As a style cycles around, it always catches you at a different period in your life and gives you a chance to wear it in new ways, paired with new styles. You may still be on the fence with flared denim, but here are four reasons why you need a pair:

• The high-waisted and long-hemmed structure adds instant length to your legs, and a lot of it! Pair with heels for a few freebie inches.
• Denim has never read so classic as in a pair of wide-leg jeans. Something about the combo of flared denim and heels brings to mind the classic fashion icons I have always loved.
• Wide-leg denim is both forgiving and flattering, accentuating the curves you actually want to accentuate (love this wash!).
• Adding a new silhouette to your wardrobe will keep your looks current and fresh – we all rely on those skinny jeans too much (myself included 😉

I got this dress for Beckam’s 3 month shoot. I wanted to do an all white look and loved the little detailing on this one. I have been bad at posting this week. B caught his first cold. Poor little guy has had a fever, coughs, and lots of cries. At first we thought he was teething but then took him to the doctor and they said he has a little virus. Nothing breaks your heart more than seeing your little one in pain. He’s been waking up every hour at night just screaming, which is so rare for him he usually sleeps 8 hours straight. We’ve tried adding a humidifer and giving him lukewarm baths which help a little, but if you have any other tips for soothing I’d love to know what has helped your little ones. I know a cold isn’t a huge deal, but it’s the first time he’s been sick so naturally I overly worry.

Happy Monday everyone! Thank you for all the birthday wishes! We had such a great weekend celebrating. It’s crazy the older you get the faster time goes. I can’t believe its February all ready.

Who else watched the Superbowl this weekend? I was raised about an hour and half outside of Seattle so I grew up going to Seahawk games with my Dad. It was pretty exciting watching them get their first Super Bowl win, but my favorite part is always the commercials. Budweiser’s commercial with the puppy and horse was hands down the best.
